
CHIKWAWA-(MaraviPost)-Scores of demonstrators from the area of Senior Chief Ngabu in Chikwawa on Tuesday stormed the District Commissioner’s (DC) office where they presented a petition to President Peter Mutharika to reinstate their Chief.
Marching together with their traditional leaders as they chanted songs to the DC’s office, the peaceful demonstrators were met by Ali Phiri, who received the petition in his capacity as DC.
Contents in the petition as read aloud before the DC, the people of Ngabu want their Chief reinstated based on several reasons among them; that the Chief’s clan members were not consulted and that the Commission of Inquiry which government had instituted was biased.
In an interview, Senior Group Village Headman Khokhwa who was among the traditional leaders in the march, summarized the contents of the petition hence added that they expect President Mutharika to address their concerns in the petition within a period of 7 days.
President Mutharika on December 12, 2019 deposed Chief Ngabu from his position on several accusations that the traditional leader was corrupt when discharging his duties and also that he was involved in land grabbing.
In June last year a group of people believed to have been influenced Paramount Chief Lundu marched to the DC offices to present their petition demanding that the Senior Chief Ngabu should be removed from his position on the same allegations.
However, without expounding, according to the concerned traditional leaders from Ngabu area, the accusations leveled against the Chief are all on political reasons
