Rebel faction of the DPP agree to hold illegal convention next week, elect Dausi as Chairperson

A friend of Mine writing on WhatsApp declared “Good morning. The DPP now has two factions. One loyal to Peter Mutharika the other loyal to Kondwani Nankhumwa. I have a strong feeling the Nankhumwa side has plans to merge with the vice president’s UTM. At least we are moving as a country”

The rebel faction of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) members who met in Lilongwe today have agreed that the party will host a national elective conference from 15th to 16th December 2023.

Making an announcement after the National Governing Council meeting which took place on Wednesday at Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe, Chairperson for the NGC Cecelia Chazama said this was resolved during the meeting as one way of respecting corrupted court orders from a suspect judiciary in the country.

“The NGC has made resolution that elective Conference will take place at Natural Resources College (NRC) in Lilongwe on 15th and 16th December 2023”, said Chazama.

She said the NGC attracted thirty delegates and the other four members followed and participated online while some sent apologies since they were engaged with other duties both within and outside the country.

Chazama also announced that among the resolutions, the council has elected Nicholus Dausi as Chairperson for the National Elective Convention to take place this month.

In his statement after being elected, Dausi thanked DPP NGC for having trust in him to chair the December elective convention.

He said as Chairperson, he will make sure that only legitimate delegates who attended 2018 convention at COMESA in Blantyre are those who will take part to elect new leaders during convention.

He also said holding elective conventions in central region does not mean that they are afraid of anything.

“As a national party, we have decided during the NGC that we should hold our next convention in the central region because we are all one”, he said.

Some delegates confided with Malawi24 that they attended the meeting in respect of the court order which is very clear.

“As a party, we should leave all our differences and camps aside and respect court order in order to progress,” said one of them.

There are camps in the party and the camp led by party leader Peter Mutharika is against the NGC meeting called by Grezelder Jeffrey who is Secretary General of the party.

It is not known what action the Peter Mutharika camp will  take based on the resolutions made during the NGC meeting.

Grezelda Geoffrey Rumored to have Engaged in Secret Meeting with Dausi

By Twink Jones Gadama

In a stunning turn of events, the opposition party’s Secretary General, Grezelda Geoffrey, was found locked in a closed-door meeting with Dausi, a prominent political figure from the opposition DPP party. Sources close to the matter revealed that the discussion primarily focused on an upcoming scheduled meeting at the prestigious Golden Peacock venue in Lilongwe scheduled today.

During the secretive encounter, both individuals allegedly discussed logistical aspects and strategies aimed at ensuring the successful execution of the event. One striking revelation that surfaced during the meeting was the mention of a monetary transaction involving President Chakwera. According to insiders, Geoffrey claimed that they had received fifty million kwachas through Collen Zamba to facilitate the smooth conduct of the gathering.

Gelzeder Jeffrey

The undisclosed sources further detailed that the funds received were intended to cover various expenses related to the meeting, such as venue arrangements, security, and participant accommodations. However, it is important to note that these claims have not been independently verified or substantiated by any official statements.

The news of this meeting has sent shockwaves throughout the political landscape, prompting questions regarding the motivations behind such covert collaboration between opposing parties. Analysts speculate that it could be an attempt to foster bipartisan dialogue or an opportunity for Geoffrey’s party to gain leverage ahead of the upcoming elections.

As of now, no official comments have been made by either party involved in the meeting.

The implications of this clandestine gathering will undoubtedly reverberate within the political sphere, adding a layer of complexity to an already contentious environment. The nation eagerly awaits further developments, demanding transparency, and accountability from its leaders as these intriguing revelations unfold.

This reporter made several attempts to speak to Grezelda Geoffrey, but his effort proved futile as the SG would not pick up the Phone.

One reliable source from MCP who opted for anonymity said   he met some DPP officials who are  clandestinely coordinating all the events.

“It’s true we met in Lilongwe yesternight and Grezelda wasn’t looking normal. Said the source.

He added, “About the cash , I don’t know talk to Grezelda or Dausi.”

Our investigations have established that some members are confronting Grezelda Geoffrey for usurping DPP president Peter Mutharika who was not consulted.

Grezelda Geoffrey is reportedly to be at pains as some close members are distancing themselves making her feel dejected.

The embattled secretary general shed tears after the closed meeting, and it had to take Dausi to console her according to our source who revealed that the meeting took place In Area 18.

She once cried in court when the court convicted her on defamation charges against Ulemu Msungama before she was forgiven.

Meanwhile some seeming confused NGC members have been spotted around Golden Peacock Hotel premises.

Embattled DAUSI Calls on Stakeholders to Refrain From Politicising Relief Assistance

Nicholas Dausi
Malawi spy chiefNicholas Dausi

Homeland Security Minister Nicholas Dausi has called upon all stakeholders to refrain from politicising relief assistance being provided under the 2018/19 Lean Season Food Insecurity Response Programme (2018/19 LS-FIRP).

Dausi, whose ministry is also responsible for disaster management affairs, made the call on Friday in Mponela, Dowa when he presided over the 2018/19 LS-FIRP Stakeholders’ Coordination Meeting involving councils from 14 central and northern districts of the country.

He said stakeholders should exercise transparency, accountability, neutrality and impartiality in the implementation of the programme.

“We are in an election year and stakeholders must not take partisan sides and must refrain from being used by any political grouping,” said the Minister.

The meeting was organized to discuss the progress made, challenges being encountered in the implementation of the 2018/19 LS-FIRP and how best to proceed with the programme.

DoDMA and humanitarian partners developed the 2018/19 LS-FIRP to guide the provision of relief assistance following a report by the Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee(MVAC) that over 3.3 million people will be food insecure during the 2018/19 lean season.

Government committed over 138,000 metric tons of maize worth over K20.8 billion to the programme. Currently, 2,826,020 people have been reached out to with relief maize.

DoDMA is working with the World Food Programme, Save the Children and Malawi Red Cross Society, among other humanitarian partners in implementing the 2018/19 LS-FIRP.

The humanitarian partners are providing financial and technical support, including complimentary cash transfers in some districts of the country.

This is a crisis: One person with albinism killed is one too many

Albino girl

Do not take advantage of the widow or the fatherless.  If you do and they cry out to me, I will certainly hear their cry. My anger will be aroused, and I will kill you with the sword; your wives will become widows and your children fatherless
. Exodus 22:22-24 (NIV)

The untoward, heinous, merciless killing of people with albinism in Malawi has reached crisis levels, is political, and must get government’s urgent attention, the time is past for words.

Nicholas Dausi
Malawi spy chiefNicholas Dausi

However, minister of homeland security and disaster preparedness, who is also DPP spokesperson, Nickolas Dausi on Wednesday appear to disagree with this position. Speaking to Brian Banda of Times TV, Dausi on Wednesday responded to Banda’s questioning, that the killing of people with albinism, is not yet a crisis. He also decried people making the killings of people with albinism a political situation.

Dausi ended his outcry by challenging that the planned march to State House, whether political parties from the opposition, would not solve the spate of albinism peoples.

Nevertheless, perhaps the minister should take into consideration that the Government exists to protect all Malawians; that means each one of the 17 million plus Malawians. Malawians pay taxes that are put into the Government coffers; the Government in turn set up internal and external security departments: The Police, secret Service (National Intelligence Bureau – NIB), and the Army. These are set up to protect us.

Malawi is currently facing a crisis: people are being targeted, ambushed, beaten and butchered to death. These targeted people are being pursued on the basis that they are people with albinism, commonly known as albinos. This is what makes these killings a crisis.

There are allegations that the killings are for cash gains. There are also allegations that even relatives are working with the illicit profiteers, to ambush persons with albinism. This is what makes these killings a crisis.

Our national security apparatuses made up of the Police and NIB, with the added eyes of the immigration officials at the Malawi borders, appear to be giving blind attention to the killings and transporting the bodies of persons with albinism. This is what makes these killings political, since these security apparatuses are departments fall under the Government.

It is uncanny, strange and mysterious that the minister of home affairs Dausi to ask the members of political parties that pledge to walk with the Association of People with Albinism (APAM) to the State House. The APAM planned to stage the walk, in protest to lack of action by Government to protect people with albinism from the spate of the killings and harvesting of bones of persons with albinism.

At this stage, people with albinism in Malawi, are living in fear; their right to life reduced and nullified by the greed of a few unchecked people. While one group of people the vulnerable people with albinism are left to their own means of protection, the killers are being allowed to prance, sashay, romp, and cavort about freely in the country.

But people with albinism are tax payers, they are people, they have all the rights endowed on the people in Malawi. Right now, all persons with albinism are vulnerable. Clearly, they have every right to seek protection from all the security machinery in Malawi. They have the right to walk up to State House, because Government appears to be doing next to nothing about their welfare and protection.

In fact, they have the light to march up to Kamuzu Palace, Sanjika Palace, and State House in Zomba and in Mzuzu.

In reaction to the February 20, 2019 interview of minister Dausi with Brian Banda on Times Talk, it must be stated categorically, that Government must act, and act now with all urgency, not in the manner that Dausi displayed in the Times interview.

“What is problem (does Government have) in protecting albinism people?” This is question Dausi is asked by Times Brian Banda.

Dausi responds: “I have no comment.”

My response to DPP spokesperson Dausi is: NOW is not the time to “have no comment!”

NOW is the time to get out your dictionary and spew out words of support, words of protection, words of inclusion, words of distancing yourself and your political party from the heinous killing of persons with albinism in Malawi. NOW is the time for you to show your cleverness with all the action words you’ve got stored up in your mind. NOW is the time for Malawi Government no-nonsense action through the machinery of Malawi security and hail-storm down on the killers and buyers of persons with albinism.

Minister Dausi, Now is not the time to “have no comment”! You’re letting down Malawi’s people with albinism, your government, your DPP, and most of all, you’re letting down all the people of Malawi.

Urgent action must be taken by the Malawi Government to ensure that no person with albinism is killed.

One person with albinism killed, is one person too many!

Mutharika’s New Year’s Day message: a mastery in fiction and hypocrisy-Part two

Peter Mutharika
We are a capable nation” NEW YEAR MESSAGE BY PRESIDENT PETER MUTHARIKA

Written by Patseni Mauka

I gave this article the above title immediately after reading Mutharika’s New Year’s Day message because I knew it was just hypocrisy as usual. True to my thinking, just a week after that message, Mutharika’s trusted gangsters are already working against his New Year message. Of course, it’s with his blessings.

In his message to Malawians, Mutharika said:

Let us agree to practice civilized politics in the spirit of peace, love and unity.       Let us reject politics of castigation. Reject politics of hate. Let us learn to        forgive one another. Beyond politics, we are all Malawians. Let us reject        smear campaigns. Say no to savage politics of rudeness. Say NO to politics of       lies! Time has come for us to rise above petty politics. Time has come for us    to put Malawi first.

What an accomplished hypocrite! The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) under his leadership is a master of castigation, rudeness, hate as well as uncivilized and savage politics.

Last year in Mzuzu Mutharika went to town castigating and threatening UTM party members including his own in-law Callista Mutharika. I listened with amazement the entire president talking about family issues in public like a salvage full of hate. Such kind of hatred can’t disappear with a mere dishonest New Year message.

His agents in DPP are worse. If Mutharika had any sense of clean politics, he could have instructed his boys to stop insulting and persecuting opposition members and anybody associated with them. But recently we have seen how President Peter Mutharika has applauded, encouraged and rewarded foul mouthed characters.

In the last cabinet reshuffle Mutharika appointed Nicholas Dausi as the Minister of Homeland Security. Nicholas Dausi was trained by the notorious Malawi Young Pioneers (MYP) which were the paramilitary wing of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP). The Young Pioneers were a major instrument for former President Dr Banda’s one party state dictatorship and domestic terrorism. Dausi served Kamuzu with utmost loyalty and obviously played a part in those dark days. He knows and practices absolute loyalty, good or bad. He has wide experience in clandestine activities.

In the same cabinet reshuffle, the president appointed Charles Mchacha as Dausi’s deputy. He was rewarded for being foul mouthed. Mchacha’s main qualification is a loud mouth. He can’t be employed anywhere else and has mastered the art of speaking obscenities to keep his employment with DPP.

The main objective of the reshuffle was a government structural change with eyes on the 2019 general elections. The two characters now at the helm of security in Malawi are hard core savages. They are never ashamed of doing anything to defend their source of income, government and party positions. They can do anything to ensure ruling DPP remains in power.

Their appointment showed Mutharika’s mediocrity, crookedness and evil intentions. He likes these mediocre and crooked characters because, given his miserable performance as President for the last four and half years, he can’t win under a free and fair election. He has to use crooked means to win elections.

A week after Mutharika’s hypocritical New Year’s Day address, Dausi and Mchacha are doing the dirty work Mutharika sent them to do on his behalf. They are instructing the police to arrest and intimidate opposition members. This week Malawi Police arrested Vice-President and UTM party leader Saulos Chilima’s aides.

Chilima-storming-Balaka-police-station

Kushi Unyolo and Joshua Valera were arrested on Sunday afternoon for ‘acting suspiciously’ at the launch of Chiwanja Cha Yao in Balaka where President Peter Mutharika was in attendance. Chilima reportedly delegated Valera and Unyolo to deliver a gift at the Yao cultural grouping ceremony to which he had been invited, but failed to go due to a funeral.

Chiwanja cha Ayawo spokesperson McDonald Sembereka is on record as having said Valera and Unyolo were not seen acting suspiciously at the function as police alleged. It’s strange how the police can arrest someone for acting suspiciously. I guess we now have to start walking without arm movement in order not to be seen as acting suspiciously. This new crime can only be manufactured by illiterate and crooked characters like Dausi and Mchacha.

Again this week, The Nation reported that, without valid reasons, the police withdrew the Toyota Cruiser registration MP 2098 it provided to Chilima as part of his entitlement. The police also called 41 Police Officers who are working in the Office of the Vice-President for a disciplinary hearing accusing them of absconding work. The 41 are reported to have been previously transferred to other police formations but did not go after Chilima obtained a court order stopping the move. As per court order, the security officers continue with their job as Chilima’s security detail.

In disregard of the court order, the police, probably on instructions from Dausi and Mchacha interdicted the 40 officers. But in another defeat, the High Court in Blantyre has today stopped Malawi Police Service from suspending or interdicting the 40 police officers.

I wish I could stop there. But just as I was typing the last sentence of this article, the bad news is that Bon Kolindo, opposition UTM National Director of youth has been arrested for ‘insulting Mutharika’. What more evidence do we need to know that this country is entering a period of government organized plans to intimidate the opposition and bring chaos during elections? This a well-orchestrated move by Mutharika. Whatever happens, he will be 100 percent responsible.

Mutharika has lied to Malawians for far too long for us to believe that he is now a born again politician interested in issue based politics. Intimidation of opposition members coming one week after his reconciliatory address leaves no room for doubt that Mutharika is a liar and hypocrite. Malawians should never trust this old and frail crook. His manifestation of lies is a warning to voters that Mutharika’s promises should not be taken seriously.

Cabinet reshuffle reveals more about Mutharika’s mediocrity and crookedness

Peter Mutharika
Malawi President Mutharika

By Patseni Mauka

Yesterday, Malawians were greeted with news of a cabinet reshuffle. This reshuffle, like many others needs deep scrutiny. A close look at the reshuffle will help to know Mutharika’s way of thinking. Obviously, he didn’t just wake up, write names of people, do a raffle draw and reveal the latest members of his cabinet. He had to think. I am interested in the thinking of this 80 year old, very tired Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate.

Around the world many people try so hard to know what world leaders think. Since presidents are usually very powerful, it’s important to know how they think, what advice they accept and what they discuss with other government leaders. There are many professionals specialized in deducing how leaders in different parts of the world think.

Among other changes, Mutharika has renamed the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security to Ministry of Homeland Security. Who is to head this tremendously important Ministry? Nicholas Dausi who was trained by the notorious Malawi Young Pioneers (MYP) which were the paramilitary wing of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP). The Young Pioneers were a major instrument for former President Dr Banda’s one party state dictatorship and domestic terrorism.

Young Pioneers had guns, conducted espionage and intelligence operations, and were Banda’s most trusted bodyguards. Kamuzu trusted his life with people like Dausi. Dausi served Kamuzu with utmost loyalty and obviously played a part in those dark days. He knows and practices absolute loyalty, good or bad. He served MCP during the dark days and left it after serving up to the position of Vice President. Apart from his experience in clandestine activities, his other popular qualification is speaking bombastic English, existing or not, applicable in context or not, understood by him or not, just bombs of English language.

Dausi will be deputized by the foul mouthed DPP Regional Governor for the South, Charles Mchacha. Mchacha, who last time I heard about his education was when he was sitting for the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), has no meaningful academic credentials. He was writing his MSCE while serving as Deputy Minister of Finance. Strange things happen in my country’s politics

A few weeks ago, at a rally in Mulanje, Mchacha called opposition UTM women mahule (whores or prostitutes). UTM’s sin being giving DPP sleepless nights as a serious contender to take government next year. Mchacha repeated the same at Comesa Trade Fair Ground in Blantyre, in the presence of President Peter Mutharika, foreign dignitaries and many other Malawians. He again called all women in UTM mahule (whore or prostitutes). He stated that being a whore is one of the criteria for joining UTM. What did the President do? He and the first lady laughed! He obviously enjoyed it.

Mchacha’s main qualification is a loud mouth. He can’t be employed anywhere else and has mastered the art of speaking obscenities to keep his employment with DPP. He will never stop this because, credit to him, he has intelligently noted that his boss, President Peter Mutharika enjoys obscene language. That’s one of the reasons he has rewarded him with a ministerial post. Mutharika is unlucky to have been educated and hold the post of president. He wishes he could curse just like Mchacha but that would destroy the image of what he pretends to be. So when people like Mchacha curse on his behalf, he privately applauds them and of course rewards them!

It looks to me that among other objectives, the reshuffle is a government structural change with eyes on the 2019 general elections. The two characters now at the helm of security in Malawi are hard core bootlickers. They are never ashamed of doing anything to defend their source of income, government and party positions. They have no manners. They can do anything to ensure ruling DPP remains in power. The cursing by Mchacha is a desperate attempt to silence opposition which is giving DPP a tough time.

We have also seen Dausi many times engaging the media in futile and many times embarrassing attempts to defend DPP and Peter Mutharika. When Mutharika got a lot of pressure from Malawians to pay back a dubious 145 million Kwacha he received from an unscrupulous businessman, he sent Dausi to announce the payback. Dausi looked Malawians in the eye and smilingly announced the return of the money. He has no shame whatsoever.

Dausi and Mchacha’s qualifications in the eyes of APM are loyalty at any cost. This is why he has brought this terrible team to head the most important ministry as we head for elections. There is some dirty work that Mutharika wants these shameless gangsters to do in the security system. He has not appointed them to improve security in Malawi. There are many capable Malawians who can handle security competently. There is no good reason to appoint mediocre characters to head security just when we need proper security as we go towards a potentially volatile election.

Their appointment shows the mediocrity hidden in Mutharikas mind. He likes these mediocre and crooked characters because, given his miserable performance as President for the last four and half years, he can’t win under a free and fair election. He has to use crooked means to win elections. This reshuffle is just one of the many things Mutharika will do to win elections. His crookedness should be a warning to all stakeholders to monitor every angle of the electoral process.

DPP yet to decide running mate for Mutharika : choice is between Chimunthu Banda and Atupele Muluzi

By Maravi Post reporter

President Peter Mutharika on Thursday failed to officially welcome former secretary general of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Henry Chimunthu Banda  amid heightened speculation that  he was being earmarked to be running mate to Mutharika in 2019 polls.

The DPP and Office of President and Cabinet on Wednesday announced that Mutharika would officially welcome back Chimunthu Banda from his self imposed political exile after losing the party presidency to Mutharika in 2014.

However, on Thursday, Mutharika held a political meeting at Nkhotakota Boma but Chimunthu Banda was no where to be seen as earlier announced.

Our sources say there is a mist over who will be running mate . With firstly the awkward working relationship between DPP and United Democratic Front (UDF) which gives the assumption that   Atupele Muluzi ( who is serving the Cabinet)  is the ideal candidate. At the same time whispers are spreading  that political wonderboy, Brown Mpingajira is pushing for the name of Chimunthu Banda as he plots his own political  interests.

“The DPP is now in disarray. The President seems not to know what to do. He has to pick either Atupele or Chimunthu Banda but the choice seems tough for him,” said our source privy to the DPP conversations.

Both DPP spokesperson Nicholas Dausi and presidential spokesperson Mgeme KaliLani refused to comment on the matter.

A  State House staff in the press team who goes by the pseudo name of Raymond Chikoko said on Facebook that Chimunthu Banda was now out of the list of the people marked for running mate saying the person to be named as running mate will be the apparent heir to the DPP presidency.

Atupele Muluzi was spotted in Mzuzu interacting with DPP supporters just a day after the United Transformation Movement secretary general Patricia Kaliati and her team were harassed and beaten up in Mangochi as they are expected  to launch  the UTM in the district.

Sources say the thugs who harassed Kaliati and her advance team ahead of the grand UTM launch on Sunday were  organised and funded by the DPP/UDF union.

Just hours before the harassment, DPP secretary general Grazider Jeffrey and other DPP officials were addressing meetings in the district.

At the meeting in Nkhotakota, Mutharika said he would emerge victorious over Malawi Congress Party and UTM.

He said the government has lined up a number of development projects for the people in Nkhotakota and Malawi in general.

Malawi Chief Secretary Muhara to govt under pressure to resign

Some Civil society organisations (CSOs) have asked the Chief Secretary to Government Lloyd Muhara to resign following allegation of abuse of office.

The CSOs said this in a press briefing in Lilongwe over the weekend.

Led by the Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR) and Centre for Development of People (Cedep), the CSOs said there is need for an immediate decisive action as the allegation reflects negatively on the Presidency, as it is happening under the President’s nose.

Muhura’s office is said to have requested for a ‘no objection’ from the office of Director of Public Procurement to buy furniture worth K64 million.

This is according to a leaked report from the Office of President and Cabinet to the Office of the Director of Public Procurement requests for a ‘no objection’ using single sourcing, something that has not amused CSOs.

Rights activist Billy Mayaya said the procurement of furniture issue puts to question the President’s credibility in providing oversight functions in his own office.

“We are demanding transparency and accountability in terms of his actions. If this is true, how [does] he ensure that his office is transparent and accountable?” asked Mayaya.

CHRR executive director Timothy Mtambo said: “We expect the President to act on the matter with speed because in the past we have seen the high office shielding culprits who have abused public funds”.

Efforts to talk to Muhara proved futile, but government spokesperson Nicholas Dausi said the refurbishment of Muhara’s office is long overdue and necessary, because it has not been rehabilitated since 1975.

“This is an important office where sensitive government information/documents are kept and we think its only proper to rehabilitate it,” said Dausi.

Malawi law experts trash commission of inquiry on Zambia maize-gate

Malawi’s law experts have on Monday discredited the newly established commission of inquiry on the K26 billion Zambia maize-gate scandal.

On Sunday, President Peter Mutharika established a commission of inquiry headed by the former chief justice Anastasia Msosa to investigate the suspected rotten maize deal and bring the results within 30 days.

Admarc chief executive Foster Mulumbe  is suspected to have corruptly bought the 100000 metric tonnes of maize.

The deal is also implicating Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Devleopment, George Chaponda. Continue reading Malawi law experts trash commission of inquiry on Zambia maize-gate
