Analysis: Kabambe: The technocrat turned presidential hopeful with a vision for Malawi’s transformation

By Burnett Munthali

Dr. Dalitso Kabambe has emerged as one of Malawi’s most prominent technocrats-turned-politicians, now vying for the presidency in the upcoming September 16th, 2025 general election under the UTM Party ticket.

A seasoned economist, Kabambe holds a PhD in Development Economics from Imperial College London, and boasts a career spanning over two decades in Malawi’s civil service and financial sectors.

He first rose to national prominence during his tenure as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) from 2017 to 2020, where he earned praise for his fiscal discipline, inflation control, and push for financial stability.

Under his leadership, Malawi experienced a period of macroeconomic stability, with single-digit inflation, rising foreign reserves, and improved investor confidence in the country’s financial systems.

Kabambe also served in various key positions in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning, and Development, where he was instrumental in shaping several national development policies.

What sets Kabambe apart is his reputation for competence, integrity, and results-oriented leadership, a profile that has gained him respect across both political and non-political circles.

He is widely viewed as a visionary leader with a deep understanding of Malawi’s structural economic challenges and a clear strategy on how to overcome them.

Kabambe’s presidential campaign is anchored on a promise of economic transformation, institutional reform, digital innovation, and inclusive development.

He has consistently articulated a desire to build a Malawi that is “prosperous, just, and competitive,” advocating for practical solutions to unemployment, poverty, and corruption.

His decision to partner with Dr. Mathews Mtumbuka, a renowned technology expert, signals his commitment to a leadership that values meritocracy, innovation, and forward-thinking governance.

The Kabambe-Mtumbuka ticket is being described by supporters and analysts as a breath of fresh air in a political environment dominated by recycled politicians and populist rhetoric.

Kabambe’s background in economics and governance provides him with the technical depth needed to tackle Malawi’s budgetary inefficiencies, public sector mismanagement, and underutilization of resources.

His candidacy appeals particularly to young professionals, the private sector, and diaspora Malawians who are looking for pragmatic and strategic leadership beyond political slogans.

He has also promised to prioritize job creation by investing in manufacturing, agro-industrial value chains, and the digital economy, aiming to make Malawi self-reliant and globally competitive.

Kabambe’s message is clear: Malawi needs a new type of leadership—one that is rooted in accountability, competence, and a long-term vision for prosperity.

Concluding Analysis

Dr. Dalitso Kabambe represents a rare blend of technocratic expertise and political ambition, offering Malawians an opportunity to choose a leader driven by substance rather than symbolism.

His proven track record at the Reserve Bank, combined with his clear policy agenda and strategic selection of a competent running mate, makes a compelling case for his presidency.

At a time when Malawi is grappling with economic uncertainty, corruption, and weak service delivery, Kabambe’s candidacy provides a beacon of hope for a future built on discipline, innovation, and inclusive development.

He is, without question, the right leader for the times.

Know Your Presidential Aspirant: Dr Dalitso Kabambe, very clear with vision-agenda for Malawi but struggling with grassroots politics

In the realm of politics, experience is often heralded as a cornerstone of effective leadership.

It is the bedrock upon which trust, credibility, and the ability to navigate complex socio-economic landscapes are built.

In this context, Dalitso Kabambe’s foray into the political arena raises significant concerns about his qualifications and suitability for the highest office in the land.

Despite his impressive academic credentials, including a PhD in Development Economics, a Master’s degree in Development Economics, and a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Kabambe’s political journey is marred by a lack of experience and a troubling pattern of opportunism that casts doubt on his ability to lead effectively.

But at Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) as Governor, Dr Kabambe achieved greatly as listed below..

Governor

  1. Achieved single digit inflation within one year of work from 24% in January down to 7.1% by December 2017 and maintained single digit average inflation throughout the tenure;
  2. Maintained stable exchange rate for the Malawi kwacha at K732 to a dollar throughout the tenure
  3. Raised the country’s foreign exchange reserves from less than 2 months of import cover or US$389 million to over 6 months US$1.4 billion
  4. Reduced the policy rate from 24% down to 13.5% within 2 years
  5. Reduced Non Performing Loans (NPL’s) for Banks from 19% to 4% within 2 years.
  6. Improved private sector lending from negative to 19% accross the board from Banks, MFI’s and Saccos
  7. Improved RBM profitability from a projected K4 billion loss in 2017 to a surplus of K21 billion by year end and a further surge in profits to a record of K57 billion in 2019, a record no other RBM Governor has ever achieved
  8. Pushed up the country’s remmittances from US$36 million in 2017 to US$250 million in 2019
  9. Successfully implemented the ECF program with the IMF throughout the period
  10. Improved the performance of the Malawi Stock Exchange in all its indicators.

Kabambe’s political career is a mere blip on the radar, having joined the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in 2020 before swiftly abandoning it for the United Transformation Movement (UTM).

This rapid shift not only reflects a lack of commitment to any political ideology but also raises questions about his motivations.

It is difficult to view this move as anything other than a blatant display of ambition to govern.

With his clear vision for the nation, Kabambe aspires to represent the interests of the people.

However, other think Kabambe is willingness to align himself with whichever party offers the most immediate benefits, undermining the very principles of integrity and loyalty that are essential for effective governance.

The political landscape is littered with individuals who possess impressive academic qualifications but lack the practical experience necessary to translate theory into action.

Kabambe’s academic accolades, while commendable, do not compensate for his glaring deficiencies in political experience.

Leadership is not merely about possessing knowledge; it is about understanding the intricacies of governance, the nuances of public policy, and the dynamics of human behavior.

Kabambe’s limited time in the political arena has not afforded him the opportunity to develop the essential skills required to navigate the complexities of leadership.

Moreover, Kabambe’s disconnect from grassroots communities further exacerbates his unsuitability for the presidency.

Effective leaders must possess a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of the people they serve.

They must be able to connect with citizens on a personal level, empathizing with their struggles and aspirations.

Unfortunately, Kabambe’s political journey has not demonstrated any significant engagement with grassroots movements or community initiatives.

His lack of connection to the very people he seeks to lead raises serious doubts about his ability to represent their interests effectively.

A leader who is out of touch with the realities faced by ordinary citizens is unlikely to make decisions that reflect their needs and priorities.

In addition to his lack of grassroots connection, Kabambe’s tenure in the political arena has been marred by controversies, including allegations of misreporting by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Such accusations not only tarnish his reputation but also raise questions about his competence and integrity.

However, this allegation, the state is unable to prosecute him that some quarters see as political witch-hunting ahead of the polls.

A leader who cannot accurately represent economic data and engage with international financial institutions is ill-equipped to navigate the complexities of national governance. The ability to manage a country’s economy is a fundamental responsibility of any president, and Kabambe’s track record in this regard is deeply concerning.

Furthermore, the political landscape is rife with challenges that require seasoned leaders who can make informed decisions under pressure.

Kabambe’s lack of experience in handling crises, managing public relations, and navigating political rivalries is a significant liability. The presidency demands a level of resilience and adaptability that Kabambe has yet to demonstrate.

In times of national crisis, citizens look to their leaders for guidance and reassurance. A leader who lacks the experience to respond effectively to such challenges is unlikely to inspire confidence or foster unity among the populace.

While it is essential to acknowledge Kabambe’s academic achievements, it is equally important to recognize that education alone does not equate to effective leadership.

The complexities of governance require a multifaceted skill set that extends beyond theoretical knowledge. Leadership is about making tough decisions, building coalitions, and inspiring others to work towards a common goal. Kabambe’s academic credentials, while impressive, do not provide a sufficient foundation for the demands of the presidency.

Dalitso Kabambe’s political aspirations are fraught with challenges that stem from his lack of experience, questionable motivations, and disconnect from grassroots communities.

While his educational background is commendable, it does not compensate for the deficiencies in his political journey.

The presidency demands a leader who possesses not only knowledge but also the practical experience and emotional intelligence to navigate the complexities of governance.

Kabambe’s rapid shift from the DPP to the UTM, coupled with his lack of grassroots connection and controversies surrounding his tenure, raises serious doubts about his ability to lead effectively.

As the nation looks to the future, it is imperative to prioritize candidates who demonstrate a genuine commitment to public service, a deep understanding of the needs of the people, and the experience necessary to navigate the challenges that lie ahead.

In this regard, Dalitso Kabambe falls short of the mark, and his aspirations for the presidency should be met with skepticism and caution.

However, Dr Kabambe is one aspirant who has clear agenda for the nation including his 3rd Economic Revolution for Malawi.

He is the man Malawi must try to govern!

War against the South? Bakili Muluzi TV alleges political persecution as Kabambe faces court battle ahead of 2025 Elections

By Burnett Munthali

An online Television station, Bakili Muluzi TV, has alleged that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP)-led government under President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has effectively declared war on southerners just five months before the highly anticipated 16th September 2025 General Elections.

Bakili Muluzi TV claims that the ruling MCP is deliberately working to ensure that both the UTM and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) are left without their preferred presidential candidates by the time the elections arrive.

According to the station, UTM presidential hopeful Dr. Dalitso Kabambe is one of the primary targets and is expected to spend crucial pre-election time entangled in court cases, with more opposition figures likely to follow him into legal battles.

It is alleged that Dr. Kabambe, during his tenure as Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), took USD 350 million without seeking the necessary approval from the Malawi Parliament, a move carried out alongside his deputy, Henry Mathanga.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5f4AF3FTv5U

The station has strongly condemned what it terms the “resurrection” of Dr. Kabambe’s case, arguing that it is politically motivated and crafted to block his presidential ambitions in the 2025 elections by branding him as a criminal.

Bakili Muluzi TV insists that Dr. Kabambe’s prosecution is suspiciously selective since the Reserve Bank of Malawi operates under a Board of Directors, none of whom are being held accountable or appearing in court.

To highlight the alleged bias, the station cited the example of Nicholas Dausi, former Minister of Homeland Security, who was never arrested in connection with the procurement of prison materials at inflated prices, while Joseph Mwanamvekha, a former Minister of Finance from the South, was arrested for similar financial allegations.

Bakili Muluzi TV drew historical parallels, recalling that during the era of the late Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, the MCP exhibited hostility towards the economic empowerment of individuals, including the arrest of Mr. Majaheni Gondwe from Rumphi in 1983 and the subsequent seizure of all his assets under the notorious Forfeiture Act.

The station claims that the same Forfeiture Act is selectively ignored today when it comes to high-ranking MCP officials, questioning why no inquiries have been made into how Richard Chimwendo Banda allegedly became a billionaire overnight and reportedly acquired 365 land plots across the country.

In a particularly controversial accusation, Bakili Muluzi TV alleged that the prominent lawyer selected to preside over Dr. Kabambe’s legal case is Kamudoni Nyasulu, a man they say has a questionable legacy that includes overseeing the arrest of Chakufwa Thom Chihana in 1992 without trial and being in office during the death of Orton Edgar Ching’oli Chirwa in prison.

The station further emphasized that Mwanamvekha’s arrest was based on accusations of misreporting economic data to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), even though at the time soap cost just K70, while under the current MCP administration, soap prices have soared to K1000, suggesting worse misreporting is going unchecked.

With each allegation, Bakili Muluzi TV paints a picture of a regime focused not on justice or accountability, but on eliminating southern political figures and suppressing competitive candidates who threaten its grip on power.

This narrative, if proven, would mark a significant indictment of the democratic process in Malawi, especially at a time when political inclusivity and electoral fairness are under the spotlight both nationally and internationally.

The allegations from Bakili Muluzi TV are likely to spark intense debate as Malawians gear up for a fiercely contested electoral showdown in September 2025, with concerns growing over the politicization of the judiciary and deepening regional divisions.

Speaking on Wednesday at a whistle-stop rally at Chilipa Market, Kabambe outlined the initiative, which includes a state-of-the-art hospital, modernized road networks, tourist-friendly amenities, and upgraded accommodation facilities.

Highlighting Mangochi’s untapped potential, Kabambe stressed that strategic investments in infrastructure and community empowerment could propel the district to become the country’s leading tourism destination.

UTM leader Dr Kabambe graces Holy Way of Cross on Good Friday

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-UTM president Dalitso Kabambe on Good Friday, April 18, 2025 joined the Christian community in Easter celebrations where he is taking part in the Way of the Cross along side Maula Catholic Parish faithfuls.

Malawi needs a bold, experienced, and truly patriotic leader

Edited version of the letter from former member of Parliament Allan Ngumuya

By: Hon. Allan Ngumuya

Fellow Malawians,

Malawi is at a crossroads.

Our nation is sinking economically, socially, and structurally.

The leadership of President Lazarus Chakwera has demonstrated incompetence, lack of vision, and failure to address the real issues affecting Malawians.

Instead of prioritizing policies that can transform our economy and uplift the lives of ordinary citizens, the President is busy distributing handouts in the name of youth engagement.

This approach is not only unsustainable but also an insult to the intelligence of Malawians.

Leadership without vision

A capable leader makes decisive and strategic choices for the benefit of the nation.

Unfortunately, Dr. Chakwera has shown an inability to control his cabinet, make urgent policy decisions, or implement critical reforms.

A glaring example is his failure to act on the Public Sector Reforms report, which he himself assigned to the late Vice President, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima.

The report contained practical recommendations, including wage adjustments for civil servants and measures to clear systemic corruption.

One of the recommendations was to set a minimum salary of K300,000 for civil servants back in 2021—a proposal that would have made a significant difference in people’s lives.

Yet, the report remains ignored in the President’s office.

What kind of leader commissions a study, receives well-thought-out recommendations, and then chooses to do nothing?

Worse still, how does a leader sideline an experienced Vice President instead of leveraging his expertise to serve Malawians?

This is a failure of leadership at the highest level.

Misplaced priorities and deception

Public frustration is evident everywhere—from minibus conversations to market discussions.

The cost of living has skyrocketed, and basic commodities such as maize are beyond the reach of many Malawians.

Instead of addressing these pressing concerns, the President’s priorities are skewed.

One clear example is the recent monetary pledges to 61 families.

While financial assistance to struggling citizens is commendable, this selective and ad hoc approach lacks a sustainable framework.

What criteria were used to determine which families benefited?

Why not implement long-term economic policies to improve livelihoods for all?

Equally disturbing is the President’s false claim that his administration has created 1.5 million jobs.

In reality, over 1.5 million Malawians have lost their jobs due to economic mismanagement.

The President has no credible employment data, yet he boldly misleads the nation on national television.

Such dishonesty is unacceptable.

The need for new, capable leadership

As Malawians, we must take our future seriously.

The youth, in particular, must not repeat past mistakes.

We must reject both the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) because they have both failed us in different ways.

Regarding the DPP, it is evident that should Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika (APM) return to power, he will not be in full control.

A small group of individuals will manipulate him, effectively running the government behind the scenes.

This is a dangerous scenario that Malawians cannot afford.

Dr. Dalitso Kabambe: A youthful and capable leader

Malawi needs a leader who is both youthful and useful—someone with a proven track record of economic success and public service.

That leader is Dr. Dalitso Kabambe.

Dr. Dalitso Kabambe'
Analysis of Dr. Dalitso Kabambe’s Landslide Victory

Dr. Kabambe’s career spans over 23 years of government service, where he held both junior and senior positions.

During the administration of President Bingu wa Mutharika, Malawi’s economy flourished—and Dr. Kabambe was a key figure behind that success.

Under President Mutharika’s leadership from 2014 to 2020, the economy remained stable, and once again, Dr. Kabambe played a crucial role.

This is not about party politics.

This is about competence, experience, and the ability to deliver results.

Dr. Kabambe understands Malawi’s economic challenges and has the expertise to fix them.

Unlike the current administration, he does not rely on deception or handouts—he has practical solutions to drive real change.

Reject failed leadership—choose a better future

Malawi deserves better.

We cannot afford another five years of incompetence, lies, and economic decline.

Dr. Chakwera’s government has failed Malawians, and we must not give them another chance.

Similarly, returning to the old leadership of DPP without fresh ideas would be a grave mistake.

We must move forward with a leader who understands governance, economic development, and the urgent needs of Malawians.

I urge all Malawians, especially the youth, to reflect deeply on the future of our nation.

Let us rescue Malawi from economic collapse by voting for a leader who is truly capable, experienced, and ready to deliver.

That leader is Dr. Dalitso Kabambe.

The time for change is now!

Dr. Dalitso Kabambe: A visionary leader ready to transform Malawi’s future

By Burnett Munthali

In the complex and ever-changing world of Malawian politics, one truth remains undeniable: the importance of a clear, consistent message cannot be overstated.

Voters today are not swayed by mere rhetoric or empty promises; they seek substance, a vision that speaks directly to their needs and aspirations.

Dr. Dalitso Kabambe, a distinguished economist and respected figure in Malawi’s political landscape, has emerged as a beacon of hope, presenting a compelling vision that promises nothing less than the transformation of the nation.

His message is not one of mere wishful thinking; it is a roadmap for prosperity, built on the pillars of innovation, accountability, and sustainable development.

At the heart of Dr. Kabambe’s vision is an unshakable belief that Malawi’s future can be redefined through a pragmatic and holistic approach to governance.

Dr. Kabambe recognizes that the country’s economic challenges are vast and multifaceted, but he remains confident that with the right leadership, Malawi can overcome these obstacles and build a thriving, self-sustaining economy.

His economic strategy revolves around the idea of diversification.

While agriculture will always remain a cornerstone of Malawi’s economy, Dr. Kabambe understands that the future lies in expanding into other sectors, such as technology, manufacturing, and renewable energy.

This forward-thinking approach ensures that Malawi is not overly reliant on one industry, and that the economy is better equipped to withstand global and domestic shocks.

A critical aspect of Dr. Kabambe’s vision is his commitment to education reform.

He understands that no nation can progress without investing in its people, and education is the foundation upon which that investment is built.

Under his leadership, Malawi’s education system will be transformed into one that prioritizes quality, innovation, and practical skills that empower future generations to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

Dr. Kabambe’s values also place a premium on inclusivity, ensuring that no one is left behind in the quest for national prosperity.

He envisions a Malawi where all citizens, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status, have equal access to opportunities.

This inclusivity extends to his policies on gender equality and youth empowerment, where women and young people are not merely passive beneficiaries of progress but active contributors to the nation’s growth.

In his vision, women will not only be given equal opportunities, but they will be encouraged and supported to take on leadership roles in every sector.

Likewise, young people will be equipped with the skills and resources they need to drive innovation and lead Malawi into a brighter future.

Dr. Kabambe’s commitment to a prosperous and equitable Malawi also extends to the health sector.

A healthy population is not just a moral imperative; it is an economic necessity.

Dr. Kabambe envisions a healthcare system where Malawians have access to affordable, high-quality medical services, and where the country’s health infrastructure is modernized to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

In addition to healthcare, Dr. Kabambe places a high value on environmental sustainability.

He acknowledges that climate change poses a significant threat to Malawi’s agricultural economy, and he advocates for policies that promote sustainable agricultural practices, renewable energy, and climate-resilient infrastructure.

By investing in technologies that reduce environmental impact while boosting food production, Dr. Kabambe intends to build a future where Malawi can thrive even in the face of global climate challenges.

Dr. Kabambe’s approach to governance is rooted in transparency and accountability.

He believes that government should be a servant of the people, not a tool for personal gain.

Under his leadership, the people of Malawi will be able to hold their leaders accountable, ensuring that public resources are used efficiently and for the benefit of all.

One of the hallmarks of Dr. Kabambe’s governance philosophy is the decentralization of power.

He understands that the needs of Malawi’s diverse communities can only be properly addressed when decision-making is brought closer to the people.

Kabambe calls for unity ahead of Monday’s peaceful demonstration

By Burnett Munthali

UTM President, Dr. Dalitso Kabambe, has issued a powerful rallying call to Malawians, urging them to join a peaceful demonstration on Monday aimed at demanding accountability and responsible governance from the country’s leadership.

In a passionate message posted on his Facebook page, Dr. Kabambe highlighted the gravity of the leadership crisis Malawi is facing, emphasizing the daily struggles citizens endure as a result of absent and ineffective leadership.

Dr. Kabambe reminded Malawians of the constitutional right to assemble and demand better governance, stating:
“Monday, we will rise together in peaceful demonstration, exercising our constitutional right to demand accountability and leadership from those who have turned away from their duties.”

He stressed the importance of collective action, urging citizens to unite and send a clear message to those in power that the people’s voices cannot be ignored.

The UTM leader did not mince words in describing the challenges the nation is facing. He pointed to a visible decline in governance that he attributes to the failure of leadership to prioritize the needs of the people. Dr. Kabambe’s remarks underline the growing frustrations among Malawians over issues such as economic hardships, poor service delivery, and unfulfilled promises.

Dr. Kabambe emphasized the need for unity among Malawians, saying:
“Let us show them that we are not just bystanders; we are active participants in shaping our future.”

He encouraged citizens to participate in large numbers, assuring them that their presence and collective voice can inspire change and hold leaders accountable.

As Malawi navigates challenging times, Dr. Kabambe’s call to action reflects a broader desire for transformational leadership that addresses the concerns of ordinary citizens. Monday’s peaceful demonstration, which is supported by the UTM Party and other stakeholders, aims to serve as a reminder that Malawians have the power to influence the direction of their country.

Dr. Kabambe concluded his message with a call for peaceful conduct during the demonstration, reinforcing the need to uphold the constitutional rights of every citizen. His message is expected to resonate with Malawians who share a common vision for a better and more accountable government.

All eyes will be on Monday’s demonstration to see how citizens respond to this rallying call and how the government reacts to these demands for leadership and accountability.

Analysis of Dr. Dalitso Kabambe’s Landslide Victory

By Twink Jones Gadama

The UTM party’s recent convention has left many Malawians wondering how Dr. Dalitso Kabambe, a relative newcomer, managed to secure a landslide victory over seasoned party members like Patricia Kaliati, Newton Kambala, and Mathews Mtumbuka.

To understand this unexpected turn of events, let’s dive into the factors that contributed to Kabambe’s success.

The Power of Fresh Perspective

Dr. Dalitso Kabambe’s landslide victory in the UTM party’s recent convention can be attributed to the power of fresh perspective.

As a relative newcomer, Kabambe brought a fresh set of eyes and ideas to the table, unencumbered by the party’s internal dynamics and historical baggage.

This allowed him to approach problems and challenges with a clean slate, unafraid to challenge the status quo and propose innovative solutions.

Having a fresh perspective can be incredibly valuable, especially in politics where stagnation and complacency can be detrimental.

It enables leaders to identify unseen opportunities, think outside the box, and craft new, improved realities.

In Kabambe’s case, his fresh perspective likely resonated with party members seeking change and a break from the traditional power structures.

By leveraging the power of fresh perspective, Dr. Kabambe was able to connect with party members and secure a landslide victory.

His success serves as a testament to the importance of innovation and forward thinking in politics.

Challenging the status quo

Dr. Dalitso Kabambe’s landslide victory in the UTM party’s recent convention can be attributed, in part, to his willingness to challenge the status quo.

By doing so, he appealed to party members seeking change and growth.

Challenging the status quo means shaking things up and pushing for change, which can be difficult, especially when those in power tend to retain it.

In the context of UTM, Kabambe’s challenge to the status quo likely meant questioning traditional power structures and proposing innovative solutions.

This approach resonated with delegates and party members eager for a fresh perspective.

By challenging the status quo, Kabambe demonstrated his commitment to progress and growth, setting him apart from seasoned party members.

To effectively challenge the status quo, leaders must prioritize ideas, collaborate with others, and be willing to take calculated risks.

By doing so, they can create a culture that values change and progress.

In Kabambe’s case, his willingness to challenge the status quo contributed significantly to his landslide victory.

The role of party dynamics

Dr. Dalitso Kabambe’s landslide victory at the UTM party convention can be attributed, in part, to the role of party dynamics.

The UTM party’s recent constitutional amendments, which aimed to improve the party’s structure and leadership processes, played a significant role in Kabambe’s success.

These amendments included the restructuring of regional divisions, expanding from four to five regions, which allowed for broader representation and greater inclusivity in urban and rural areas.

Additionally, the party introduced a five-year term limit for its leaders, promoting leadership renewal and accountability.

The amendments also ensured greater democracy and member involvement in the selection process of the deputy leader, who is now elected at the party’s convention.

The transition in party leadership following Dr. Saulos Chilima’s passing also created an opportunity for new leadership to emerge.

Michael Usi assuming the presidency and later withdrawing from the convention created a power vacuum that Kabambe capitalized on.

Kabambe’s victory coincided with his birthday, and in his acceptance speech, he acknowledged the strife within the party and congratulated the other candidates.

These factors combined to create a perfect storm that propelled Kabambe to victory, demonstrating the significance of party dynamics in shaping leadership outcomes.

Unity and Inclusivity

In his acceptance speech, Kabambe emphasized the importance of bringing all talent on board, signaling his intention to work collaboratively with all members of UTM.

This inclusive approach resonated strongly with delegates and party members, who are eager for a leader who can unite the party and drive meaningful change.

Kabambe’s commitment to unity was evident in his praise for his fellow competitors, acknowledging their unique leadership qualities and expressing gratitude for their participation in the convention.

By recognizing the strengths of others, Kabambe demonstrated his willingness to put aside personal interests and prioritize the party’s collective success.

By championing unity and inclusivity, Kabambe has set the tone for a new era of leadership within UTM, one that prioritizes collective success over individual interests.

As he prepares to lead the party into the 2025 elections, Kabambe’s commitment to unity will be crucial in maintaining momentum and energizing party members.

Conclusion

Dr. Dalitso Kabambe’s landslide victory is a testament to the power of fresh perspectives, unity, and inclusivity.

As UTM prepares for the 2025 general elections, Kabambe’s leadership will be crucial in shaping the party’s future.

Will he be able to maintain momentum and lead UTM to victory? Only time will tell.

UTM elective convention: Kabambe dates Southern Region delegates for support

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The United Transformation Movement (UTM) presidential aspirant Dr. Dalitso Kabambe has urged delegates to vote for him during the party’s elective convention on November 17, 2024, in Mzuzu.

Speaking with journalists after meeting the delegates at Malawi Sun Hotel in Blantyre on Thursday, Kabambe said he is worthy of running the party since he has worked in various top government positions for twenty-five years and is ready to bring the experience he gained from those positions into UTM.

“I am urging the UTM delegates to vote for me during our convention next week. The party needs someone who has experience to drive it forward and I am eligible for that. I have twenty-five years of experience and qualifications in running various government institutions.

“I have been budget director, I have been Governor of Reserve Bank, I have been principal secretary in Malawi government and I have served various top positions out there. I bringing all this worthy of experience into UTM so that the party also has people who can run this country,” said Kabambe.

The former RBM Governor also highlighted the economic challenges Malawi is facing under Tonse Alliance leadership, including hunger, poverty and joblessness, which have left half the population in dire need of help.

He emphasized that the country needs a government that addresses these challenges and meets the needs of its people.

Kabambe promised to bring economic reform and transformation if elected.

He stressed that the UTM party needs to stand by its ideals of unity and transformation and elect a team that can be trusted by Malawians and has the confidence of the people.
