Malawi’s Chikwawa nurse arrested for abducting 16-year old

The Malawi Police are keeping in custody a 26 year old nurse at Chikwawa District Hospital for allegedly abducting a 16-year old girl for two days.

According to Foster Benjamin, Chikwawa police station spokesperson, the suspected nurse, Lingstone Gango, was arrested on Sunday.

“Gango is said to have abducted the girl( name withheld) on 27 December and kept her within the hospital’s hostel until 29 December this year.

“The two are said to be in relationship. The girl’s parents made numerous attempts to call the girl but she kept lying to them about her whereabouts,”says Benjamin.

The police publicist added, “Then, following their own investigation, the parents got informed that their daughter was being held by the suspect in the hospital’s hostel.

“On Saturday, the parents confronted the suspect along the way and ended up being insulted (by the suspect).”

He says, “They reported the issue to police. Police arrested Gango after handing himself over to the law enforcers. He is facing a charge of abduction which is contrary to Section 136 of the Penal code. He will appear in court soon after all investigations are concluded”.

Gango hails from Kadamera Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Mbenje in Nsanje District.

Referee arrested for allegedly killing a player in Chikwawa

The Malawi Police in Chikwawa are keeping in custody referee McKnight Nyekheya for allegedly killing a player in Thyolo.

Nyekheya, 28, is suspected to have hit to death a yet-to-be identified player for Billiat whose team was baying for his blood.

According Foster Benjamin, Chikwawa Police Station spokesperson the incident occurred on Wednesday at Chilengo School Ground in the area of Senior Chief Mphuka during the match between Billiat and Chilengo.

Benjamin disclosed that in that game, which was in a one-one affair, referee Nyekheya disallowed a penalty which prompted Billiat to vent their anger on him.

The police publicist added that in the ensuing chaos, the referee escaped and sought refuge in the nearby house. Billiat players, however, went after and smoked him out in utter frustration.

Eventually, the referee picked up a stick and assaulted one player before he vanished into the maize field.

“Therfore the assaulted player is reported to have died on arrival at the hospital. Following the development, angry villagers and Billiat players descended on the suspect’s home at Makhomo Village and set his house ablaze. They went on killing all livestock and demolishing the house belonging to the suspect’s parents.

“The mob further trekked to the suspect’s business place at Mkhate Trading Centre in Chikwawa and looted items which, among others, include a refrigerator, home theatre, mattress and 4 duvet covers. Nyekheya turned himself over to Nchalo Police Post before before transfered to Chikwawa Police Station. He is facing a murder charg,” said Benjamin

Meanwhile, police are hunting for the suspects who demolished the houses and looted the suspect’s property.

Nyekheya hails from Makhomo Village in the area of Senior Chief Mphuka in Thyolo District.

Baby chopped off private parts in Chikwawa; police on man hunt

Police in Chikwawa are hunting for thugs who brutally killed a 5-year-old baby-girl before chopping off her private parts.

The incident is believed to have occurred on Wednesday night at Goma Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) N’gabu in the district.

Foster Benjamin Chikwawa Police Station spokesperson told The Maravi Post that the little girl was discovered dead behind Goma Catholic Primary School

Benjamin disclosed that it is said that the girl’s mother left home in the evening to hunt for locusts in the bush.

The police publicist added that the deceased mother had left home the deceased and her 10-year-old son.

“The mother spent the whole night hunting and proceeded to the market on Thursday morning without checking on her children. Whilst at the market, the mother got shocked to hear that her daughter had been found dead with her private parts cut off.

“Postmortem results from Ngabu Rural Hospital showed that the little girl had died of severe loss of blood and spinal injury. Police are therefore urging the public to bring forth any information that will lead to the arrest of the brutal murderers,” urges Benjamin.
