World Vision Malawi dates Parliament on 2021-2025 Strategy

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-World Vision Malawi (WVM) has emphasised the need for Members of Parliament (MPs) to embrace its 2021-2025 Strategy easy implementation.

The call comes after WVM engage lawmakers on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 in the capital Lilongwe that legislators be supportive towards implemention.

WVM National Director, Francis Dube observes that lawmakers are important on the strategy as are policy holders saying strategy offers a positive promise to the children of Malawi and government.

Dunbe therefore calls for the transparency and accountability in the implementation process of the Strategy.

“It will provide an opportunity for checks and balance in its implementation and calls collaboration, linkages and advocacy for the improvement of the livelihoods of children and communities,

“We want our legislators to be part and parcel of strategy’s implementation whose beneficiaries are MPs constituents” Dube added.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Catherine Gotani therefore agreed to partner with WVM in order to foster development needs in various constituencies in the country.

Hara observed that WVM has been in operational in the country since 1982 but has had no working agreement with the National Assembly.

The Speaker pointed out that Non- Government Organizations (NGOs) such WVM should strive to establish working with relationships with the National Assembly.

“NGOs should be keen to look for opportunities in order to lobby with Members of Parliament (MPs) to change some of the laws they deem not conducive to their operations. They can lobby through private members motions in order to advance some amendments of the laws,” she added.

Hara therefore appealed to NGOs in the country to consult MPs when implementing development projects in an area in order to instill issues of ownership.

The Speaker hailed WVM for engaging MPs to appreciate the newly formulated WVM 2021-2025 strategy which need the support of all stakeholders.

She said the gesture would accord MPs to have a better understating of the Strategy and be part of the implementation process.

“We have seen that the Strategy is been implemented in the sectors of education, food security, Early Childhood Development (ECD), health, education, water and ending  Gender Based Violence  (GBV) and child marriages,” Hara explained.

Minister of Gender, Social Welfare and Community Development, Patricia Kaliati said it was pleasing to note that the new WVM Strategy has been aligned with Malawi 2063.

She said Strategy calls for the involvement of all stakeholders so that no one should not be left behind.

Kaliati said District Council should be vigilant in making sure that all NGOs working in their councils should be implementing their development projects according to their District Development Plans (DDPs).

She said in order to achieve this MPs need to play their rightful role in the monitoring and implementation processes.

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)- World Vision Malawi (WVM) on Friday, October 29, 2021 launched the much awaited 2021-2025 Strategic Plan aimed at improving communities’ lives for better

Deputy Minister of Local Government, Halima Daud who presided over the strategic plan launch in the capital Lilongwe commended WVM for complimenting government efforts in providing development needs to the communities in the country..

Daud observes that the organisation has provided a lot of support in various sectors such as agriculture, nutrition, water and sanitation, education, environment, health, life skills and community development since 1982. 

The deputy minister said the newly formulated WVM strategic plan has been formulated in line with Malawi 2063 development agenda which seek to improve communities’ lives.

“We wish applaud WVM management for formulating the new plan which has a number of components which are aimed at improving the livelihoods of the communities. As government, we will strive to work with them in every aspect of their programmes,” the Deputy Minister said.

She said WVM has been instrumental in ending child marriages by launching an initiative to help girls to return to school.

“WVM are running a number of programmes which are aiming at empowering girls, boys and women in their communities so that they should be able to contribute to their development needs,” Daud added.

WVM Advisory Council Vice Chair, Tonda Chinangwa disclosed that WVM 2016-2021 t strategy was able to service over 1.5 million children in the country through several interventions from various sectors.

Chinangwa said the launch of the new strategy calls for multi-sectoral collaboration among stakeholders in order to attain the desired results of servicing communities.

WVM National Director, Francis Dube said WVM was not working into isolation that why the formulation of the strategic plan has been crafted in line with government development agenda of Malawi 2063.

Dube said WVM wants to make sure that the strategic plan should contribute positively to the transformation of communities’ lives in general.

“It’s our commitment to go further in transforming and reaching to more vulnerable children in the country. We want improve quality of life for over two million children in the next five years,” Dube pointed out.

During the strategic launch WVM showcased their areas of operation to the communities in the country.

World Vision Malawi aids Govt with MK114.7m medical supplies

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-World Vision Malawi (WVM) on Monday, September 13, 2021 donated medical supplies to Ministry of Health worth approximately MK114,703,500.00 towards improving the well-being of mothers and children.

Among other medical supplies donated include; heat pads, sanitary pads, crutches, baby powder, 225 cartons of Albendazole, 20 bottles of 100 tablets in each carton, surgical tape, exam gowns, shoe protectors, surgical towel as well as infant towels.

Some of the medical supplies have been donated to help in fighting against Covid-19 pandemic in the country. 

Speaking after the handover ceremony WVM National Director, Francis Dube said the donation has been done in line with WVM’s commitment in making measurable contributions towards improving the well-being of people of Malawi especially mothers and children.

“What we have donated today are the equipment that will make every child and mother to be very valuable. The donation will make clinics and health care facilities to move and take care of patients particularly mothers when they take children to clinics for service delivery,” Dube said.

Dube further said that WVM as a primary recipient of Global Fund works with government supporting communities to grow without any side benefit saying that this is not the first time to make such a donation to the Ministry of Health.

“In addition to this donation WVM has also built a number of clinics, trained Health Surveillance Assistants just to mention a few and to ensure every child experience good health and nutrition across the country,” he said.

Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda commended WVM for the kind gesture saying it is one way of complementing government’s efforts in supporting the welfare of Malawians.

“This donation has gone beyond Covid-19. We appreciate what WVM has done towards Ministry of Health. The donation which has several consignments has a huge impact towards lives of people.

“The donation is significant as it comprises of items with personal protective equipment (PPE) and other materials beyond Covid-19 like deworming tablets which are vital to children. We are advocating other organization, as well as other stakeholders and well-wishers to emulate the same,” said Chiponda. 

In the fiscal year 2019/2020 WVM implemented health projects in 24 communities across 15 districts of Malawi. Among key issues addressed by the health projects is inadequate dietary intake due to poor feeding practices.

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-World Vision Malawi (WVM) on Friday, August 13, 2021 inaugurated new National Director Francis Dube who has assured of advancing mindset change in the organisation’s programming.

Dube was inaugurated with prayers as the christian centered in the capital Lilongwe.

Faith leaders offered their dedication prayers to Dube during the ceremony.

The new WVM boss said the position comes with responsibilities, expectations and challenges where it requires one to deliver.

He said there was need to work in partnerships with all stakeholders in order to deliver the expected results in the sectors of health, education, food and security, water supply and child development.

“As the organisation works in line with Malawi Veep office agenda of Mindset Change, this my task ahead that our programming attain to that, ” assures Dube.

Advisory Council for Chair of WVM, Dr Lucy Kachapila said this Friday during the inauguration of new WVM National Director, Francis Dube by Faith leaders at Sunbird Lilongwe Hotel.

She said WVM has been working closely with Churches and partners in various developmental programmes which are aimed at uplifting the lives of ordinary communities more especially women and children.

Kachapila said WVM would always strive to make sure that their support to the communities has a true bearing of improving their livelihoods. 

The Chair assured the new National Director of WVM of their support to fulfilling his vision and plans for the Malawi office.

“We would like to thank you for accepting to take the new challenge to head the Malawi office. We are promising to work together in the fulfillment of the vision of WVM office in supporting the under privileged in the country,” she added.

Kachapila praised the outgoing Officer In-Charge of WVM Office, Catherine Omenda for the steering the office well saying her leadership had an impact in the running of the activities for the organization.

Omenda wished Dube all the best as he takes over the Malawi office.

Executive Board Member for Malawi Council of Churches,Rev. Evance Mphalasa expressed gratitude to WVM for providing support in various sectors of development in the country.

He said WVM has been a strong partner with most churches in the country as a way of promoting Christian values among communities when spearheading development agendas.

Dube was appointed National Director for WVM with effect from August 1, 2021.
