Flames face Botswana in international friendly on Independence Day Celebrations

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi national football team, Flames, is gearing up to play Botswana in an international friendly match on Sunday, July 6,2025, as part of Malawi’s 61st independence celebrations.

The match will be played at Bingu National Stadium.

Flames Head Coach Kalisto Pasuwa has named a 25-man squad for the match, retaining 17 players from the team that participated in the Hollywoodbets COSAFA Cup last month.

The team is expected to regroup in Lilongwe on Thursday, July 3, to begin preparations.

The squad includes talented players such as FCB Nyasa Bullets Reserves midfielder Oscar Petro, who made his debut in the COSAFA Cup against Angola.

Other notable players include goalkeepers Joshua Waka, George Chikooka, and Richard Chimbamba, defenders Mark Lameck, Maxwell Paipi, and Emmanuel Nyirenda, midfielders Llyod Aaron, Chawanangwa Gumbo, and Wongani Lungu, and forwards Olson Kanjira, Wisdom Mpinganjira, and Gaddie Chirwa.

This friendly match is an excellent opportunity for Flames to test their skills and prepare for future competitions.
