…..Wanderers 1-0 Bullets
By Edwin Mbewe
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Mighty Wanderers FC etched their name into Malawian football history with a dramatic 1-0 victory over bitter rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets FC to finally lift the NBS Bank Charity Shield.
In a match charged with intensity and pride, it was Sama Thierry Dejong who rose to the occasion and delivered the decisive blow just seconds into the second half.
The Cameroonian striker reacted instinctively after Bullets goalkeeper Innocent Nyasulu denied Gaddie Chirwa’s initial strike, powering home a rebound header that sent Wanderers supporters into wild celebration.
The first half had been a cagey affair, with both sides locked in a tense battle and neither willing to concede ground.
But the game exploded into life immediately after the restart, and Dejong’s clinical finish proved to be the difference in a fiercely contested derby.
For Wanderers, this was more than just a win—it was redemption.
After six failed attempts in previous editions of the Charity Shield, the Nomads have finally broken their curse and claimed the coveted curtain-raiser trophy for the very first time.
For Bullets, it was an unfamiliar feeling of defeat. Coming into the match as seven-time winners in eight appearances, they were widely expected to dominate.
Instead, they were left stunned by a resurgent Wanderers side that continues to shift the balance of power in Malawian football.
The result further underlines Wanderers’ recent supremacy over their archrivals, having now beaten Bullets four times since last season—a remarkable run that signals a new era in this historic rivalry.
With the FDH Bank Premiership set to kick off on April 25, 2026, Wanderers have fired a powerful warning to the rest of the league: they are no longer chasing history—they are making it.
The Nomads who won last year’s Malawi’s elite league would want to start this season on high note to send another statement in as far as defending the championship is concerned.
