Malawi Police releases Information Minister Dausi`s son and friends; Have no case to answer

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)Police in Lilongwe on Monday released Nicholas Dausi Jnr, a son to Minister of Information Nicholas Dausi and his friends from custody, Maravi Post has established.

Dausi Jnr and friends were arrested on Friday for causing a scene at Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church in Lilongwe which is owned by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri.

Dausi jnr and his friends, using a ministry of information vehicle followed a woman who was on her way to the church where they disrupted Church services.

It is reported that the men had in possession of a gun which they used to threaten the church members before they were pepper sprayed and apprehended by the guards.

Confirming the release of the suspects, Deputy National Police Publicist Thomeck Nyaude said were released because the police did not find any case for them to answer after questioned.

He however said that the police are not sure if one of the suspects was really a son to Malawi`s Minister of Information.

Confusionists should not be in DPP but in ‘ng’ona’ party- President Mutharika

CHIKWAWA-(MaraviPost)-President Peter Mutharika on Sunday told confusionists in his ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to desist and join the main opposition, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) which he referred as ng’ona party.

Mutharika made the remarks during the political rally he organized at Nchalo in Chikwawa district.

According to him, he know that there are some Judah Iscariot in his party who changes their colours during day and night.

He however called for peace in his party in order to win the 2019 tripartite elections as well as developing the country.

“I want peace in DPP and not quarrels or fighting. Fight should be in ng’ona party and those who want should go and join it. I don’t want gossipers in DPP. Everyone has right to join the party and must be welcomed,” he said.

DPP regional governor for the south Charles Mchacha and Minister of Information Nicholas Dausi described the current infighting in MCP as behavior of the party.

The two ask Malawians to vote for DPP in 2019 tripartite elections especially if they want development.

Government to reward Malawian SADC Media Awards winners

Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Nicholas Dausi has promised Malawian Journalists substantial rewards if they win in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) media awards.

Dausi made the pledge during the launch of 2018 SADC Media Awards at the Central Office of Information in Lilongwe.

The Minister challenged Malawian journalists to write competitive stories that focus on regional integration within SADC.

He also commended Malawian journalists for winning in various categories since the introduction of the awards in 2014 .

“So as we go into another season, I urge you to do your best so that we continue doing well. Come up with winning stories which emphasize on promoting regional integration,” said Dausi.

Journalists will compete in categories of print, radio, television and photo journalism. Winners in each category will take home US2500 Dollar (about K1.8 million) while runners up will take away a consolation cash prize of US1000 Dollars (about K735, 000).

Only stories published in 2017 are eligible for the 2018 awards.

SADC was founded in 1980 and Malawi is one of the founding members. Currently, the grouping has 16 members.

Minister back Chief Secretary to Government on office abuse allegations

Minister of Information Nicholas Dausi on Wednesday said nothing was wrong for government to allocate K64 million to the Office of President and Cabinet (OPC) to purchase new furniture especially to the office of the Chief Secretary to government, Lloyd Muhura.

Led by the Centre for Human Rights and Rehabiliation (CHRR) and Centre for Development of People (Cedep), some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) said there is need for an immediate decisive action as the allegation reflects negatively on the Presidency, as it is happening under the President’s nose.

Muhura’s office is said to have requested for a ‘no objection’ from the office of Director of Public Procurement to buy furniture worth K64 million.

This is according to a leaked report from the Office of President and Cabinet to the Office of the Director of Public Procurement requests for a ‘no objection’ using single sourcing, something that has not amused CSOs.

REFURBISHMENT OF THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT AND CABINET AT CAPITAL HILL

A decision was made to refurbish the Office of the President and Cabinet complex building by replacing old carpets, ceiling boards, painting the walls and installing CCTV cameras for security of Government resources including equipment, and replacing the worn-out desks and chairs.

This was done to improve the working environment in the Office of the President and Cabinet, in line with the Strategic Objectives outlines in the Strategic Plan. The office complex has not been refurbished since 1975 and some parts are in poor condition.

Funding for the refurbishment exercise was sourced from the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development.

The repairs and refurbishment were to cover the Office of the President and Cabinet building at Capital Hill in Lilongwe. Due to the amount of money involved, Government resorted to carrying out the work in phases.

The company awarded the contract is EQWIP Interior Works. It was planned to start repairing and refurbishing one wing of the Office of the President and Cabinet building which comprises several rooms including the Chief Secretary’s Office.

However, the planned works has been suspended indefinitely.

President Mutharika’s silence on bloodsuckers myth annoys MHRC

The Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC), one of the tax-funded human rights organizations in the country, has failed to hold down its temper and took a bite at President Peter Mutharika’s silence on the ongoing bloodsuckers myth.

The bloodsuckers myth has so far claimed six lives, and destroyed properties of millions of Kwachas, and inflicted injuries to many innocent people.

However, since the development started, Mutharika has not voiced out against the barbaric acts, apart from some of his ministers that include Minister of Information Nicholas Dausi, who put the blame on the opposition parties and Civil Society Organizations.
