Archive: Strange bedfellows – Sidik Mia and Chakwera following proceedings during the Ngabu rally
For five months now this country has been operating without minister of Transport and Public Works and Minister of Local Government.
Local Government Minister Lingson Berekanyama and Transport Minister Sidik Mia both succumbed to COVID-19 earlier this year.
These two ministers are very crucial and needed at any time as far as running a government is concerned.
Many Malawians are wondering why Lazarus Chakwera seems to be easy and comfortable about the missing of these ministers in his cabinet.
Why is Chakwera taking this long to appoint minister Transport and Minister of Local government after Sidik Mia and Belekanyama died in January of Covid-19.
The procrastination approach by Lazarus Chakwera leadership must be dealt with before things go out of hand in his government.
PROPHETIC WARNING – DR JOYCE BANDA AND covid-19 did not kill Mia
PRETORIA-(MaraviPost)-South African-Malawi’s based pastor Austin Liabunya on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 made a scanting prophecy on former Malawi President Joyce Banda’s (JB) death plot against her.
Prophet Liabunya disclosed that God has repeatedly showed him four times only within the night of May 11, 2021 about a serious attack on JB’s health.
The man of God also revealed that the person plotting against Joyce Banda was the same individual who killed former Transport Minister Sidik Mia.
Prophet Liabunya says Mia was assassinated by President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse administration member not Covid-19 as pronounced of his death.
The man of God disclosed that after Tonse leadership, the truth will be known on who killed the late Mia who was Malawi Congress Party (MCP), the main shareholder in Tonse government.
Posted on his facebook page, Prophet Liabunya therefore called upon Malawian saints to pray for former Malawi leader JB.
Below is the full Prophet Austin Liabunya made to Malawi Former President Joyce Banda:
PROPHETIC WARNING – DR JOYCE BANDA
To the saints in Malawi,
I have been quickened to urge you to stand in prayer for our mother Joyce Banda against an attack that God has repeatedly showed me 4 times only within this night. I haven’t slept a wink I have been in prayer interceding But God has instructed me to bring it out to the saints as a team to pray for our precious soul. I love her, we all love her and if really do so, we will wish her well.
Specifically, I have seen a serious attack on her health and a different hijack. The same person that killed Sidik Mia and his team is also attempting on her life. This vision has come in a parable so I’m very sensitive in how I give it out – that’s why I’m also still praying for more clarity and I may come back to deliver it if God permits me.
I know you will ask many questions because I mentioned honorable Mia being killed by a person. Oh yes! It was a big person within Tonse Alliance that did it not CORONA VIRUS. But you people think it was COVID-19 because you can’t see in the Spirit neither hear the VOICE of God. But I tell you his death will be vindicated once TONSE is out of the line (VERY VERY SOON) because it was just for ‘a minute’.
God Bless Our President! God Bless Malawi! God Bless You!

Mia greeting Joyce Banda as President Chakwera looks on
BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—In what can be described as hypocrisy of the highest order, the Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera has today paid Mia family a visit, one month after the death of Mohammed Sidik Mia who was Minister of Transport and Vice President of the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Mia succumbed to Covid-19 on 12th January but the general public was in awe following the behaviour of the MCP officials and the President as they did not attend the funeral despite Mia being one of the top officials of the party.
According to information gathered, it was Ulemu Msungama who showed brotherhood by attending the burial ceremony and was also seen at the Mia’s compound the following days.
However, Chakwera rushed to console the former President Joyce Banda who lost his son due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Following his visit to Joyce Banda’s residence, Chakwera’s morality has been under heavy scrutiny.
After several weeks of public pressure to show some love by visiting the Mia family the same way he visited the Former President’s family after they lost their son, Chakwera has now decided to secretly sneak out of State House to visit the Mia family today, February 11.
His decision, however, is believed to have been influenced by the impending by-elections which are due in two months time in Chikwawa and Nsanje.
Commenting on Chakwera’s visit, people have faulted the president for his failure to accord Mia with the respect he deserves.
“Sidik Mia played a big role for MCP to come back into power after spending 26 years on the bench. Mia financed the party. He worked day and night in all the regions to woo electorates.
“We expected Chakwera to be appreciative but he acted to the contrary. Honestly, Chakwera has goofed. He is a Reverend and we expected him to behave as such when his friend and Vice President of the ruling MCP died,” a Blantyre resident commented on condition of anonymity.
Mia was a senior member of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), the main partner in an alliance that unseated ex-leader Peter Mutharika in a second round election in June last year, delivering victory to President Lazarus Chakwera.
Mia had been tipped as a possible successor to Chakwera.
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, Malawi started a three day mourning for the departed souls due to Covid-19 more particularly two cabinet ministers (Sidik Mia and Lingisoni Belekanyama) who passed away on the same day. May their souls rest in eternal peace.
The nation was panic on Tuesday for the demise of the two including many deaths and cases reported on Covid-19.
But the subject matter is on the late Sidik Mia who was Malawi Congress Party (MCP) first Vice President, the main shareholder in Tonse administration led by Lazarus Chakwera.
The late Mia for starters sacrificed his energies, resources, monies to revive MCP political muscle from shameful defeat in opposition for more 26 years, loosing elections after elections.
The late Mbuya Mia’s financial muscle made MCP and Chakwera to be where they are now.
Only six months into leadership, the former Transport Minister succumbed to Covid-19 with little rewards of his sweat for MCP leadership in Malawi government. May God receive Mia’s soul.
What has surprised many is the leaked audio on how the late Mia remains buried without Tonse government and MCP representatives, even Chakwera sending condolence messages to the bereaved family as many expected to announce at the burial ceremony at Ngabu, Chikwawa, home village.
An audio in our possession communicating to the Muslim community in Malawi as the late Mia’s religion, has expressed sadness the way Chakwera with Tonse administration and MCP treated the late Mbuya’s remains.
“Immediately after death pronouncement in the morning of Tuesday, January 12, 2021, we spent about three hours at Queen Central Hospital without any MCP or Tonse government officials to be part of Muslim Jhadhi community which handled the whole burial ceremony.
“We expected traffic police officers to help clearing the road from hospital to the late’s house till home village Ngabu in Chakwera considering that Mia was a senior cabinet minister and MCP Vice President but nothing of that sort happened,” worried a Muslim brother in the audio.
He added, “Our hope was on our way from the late Mia house (Mudi, Blantyre) that police traffic officers could come in but nothing of that sort that we had to wait road signs (robots) for minutes with the remains of the senior cabinet minister until I used my vehicle to clear the road till at her home village at Ngabu.
“When we arrived at Ngabu for burial later in the evening, we also expected Malawi government and MCP officials to speak at the funeral where we spent till 7 pm but nothing happened when we just head that the head of state was speaking on radio. Was Mia really deserved this despite all his sacrifices to the leadership?
“With or without Covid-19, Mia deserved a better treatment of his burial not what this leadership has demonstrated. You mean the leadership could fail to be 100 meters away from the grave for his close friend who used his resources to put him where he is now?
“Malawians will always remember Sidik Mia for his fatherly heart to his Muslim community brothers and sisters and also to those in political circles. The nation has lost the asset that wishes others well in life”, says the concerned Muslim brother.
The Maravi Post understands that during the national address on Tuesday afternoon, Chakwera’s face showed not much groomy as expected even without mask on his mouth or carrying.
After the late Mia told the nation of his positive test to Covid-19, no Tonse government or MCP official wished him well even to visit him at the hospital to our knowledge.
But during the burial of MCP senior member Mayi Dinala, the party was all over despite Covid-19 measures. Did Mia deserve this?
Prior to his death, this paper carried an article in which Chakwera is said to have started grooming his trusted boy Eisenhower Mkaka Foreign Minister and MCP’s Secretary General to take over from him in 2025.
Are we reading too much on this that some are happy within MCP or Tonse as the main opponent is gone?
The nation is yet to hear Chakwera’s justification on Mia’s burial as Covid-19 continues striking hard the nation.
Mask up, Watch hands, social distancing and stay safe!!!
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera will miss the inauguration ceremony for Tanzania’s John Magufuli.
Chakwera has however delegated Minister of Transport Sidik Mia who is also Malawi Congress Party (MCP)’s First Vice President to represent him.
In a letter signed by Secretary for Transport Patrick Zimpita, Mia was expected to meet truck drivers on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 but the meeting has been cancelled because of the Minister’s assignment in Tanzania.
“Hon. Minister of Transport and Public Works who was supposed to chair the meeting has been delegated to attend inauguration of the president elect of the United Republic of Tanzania on 5th November, 2020 on behalf of the President,” reads part of the letter to truck drivers dated 3rd November.
Media reports reveal that Mia has been accompanied by Minister of Information Gospel Kazako.
The inauguration comes weeks after President Chakwera visited Tanzania where he held talks with Magufuli.
Last week, Magufuli won a second term, with a landslide victory of more than 84% of the vote while his main opponent, Tundu Lissu, earned 13% of the vote.
Announcing the votes Friday in Dar es Salaam, the chairperson of the National Electoral Commission, Semistocles Kaijage, said 15 million of 29 million registered voters went to the polls.
Lissu, of the Party for Democracy and Progress, or Chadema, last week told Voanews that the election was full of fraud, and he called on the international community not to accept the results.
Last month Chakwera visited Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe for diplomatic talks.
Mia welcoming Nsanje South MP Eurita Ntiza at Nsanje Youth Centre
BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Sidik Mia, who is the Minister of Transport and Public Works and the Vice President of the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP), is registering serious inroads in the Southern Region as two independent parliamentarians in the lower Shire officially joined the party over the weekend, just few days after the party welcomed Balaka North legislator Tony Ngalande.
On Saturday, Mia, accompanied by his wife Abida Sidik Mia, a standalone politician and Mmeber of Parliament for Chikwawa Nkombezi, MCP campaign director Moses Kumkuyu and party regional officials, welcomed Nsanje South West Constituency Independent Member of Parliament, Eurita Mtiza Valera.
The welcoming ceremony took place at Nsanje Youth Centre before a small crowd in line with the Coronavirus preventive measures that the Tonse Alliance government under the leadership of President Lazarus Chakwera put in place.
Speaking after Mia performed the welcoming party rituals, Mtiza thanked the MCP Vice President for taking time off his busy schedule to welcome her saying “this is an honour to me.”
Mtiza said she had decided to join MCP in order to best serve her people by working with the government as opposed to working with opposition entities.
“The lower states [referring to Nsanje and Chikwawa] can be the breadbasket of Malawi but we have been reduced to beggars’ year in, year out due to drought or floods we suffer almost annually here.
“However, if the government can help our people to do irrigation farming as we have water in abundance in the Shire River, we can get rid of this shame and we can even start feeding this country. Therefore, being part and parcel of government as in joining the Chakwera led administration is therefore ideal to realize this goal hence this move today,” said Ntiza.
On his part, Mia who is the party’s Vice President and also Minister of Transport and Public Works, was delighted and thanked Mtiza for making a wise decision to join MCP.
Mia told the new catch not to worry saying Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s government is a trusted partner in her quest to develop the constituency.
He assured the people of Nsanje that good roads will be done in the districts, a railroad project underway will be completed from Limbe via Nsanje to connect to Beira to—a project he said will inject a new lease of life in the country’s economy through job opportunities and cross-border trade.
On Sunday, Mia, who was officially conferred with the title of Mbuya [confirming his status as political godfather of the two states] by Chiefs as a successor to the late Gwanda Chakuwamba, welcomed another Independent Member of Parliament, Ramzan Mohammed, at the far end on the Malawi map—Nsanje South Constituency.
Last week, Mia also welcomed Balaka North legislator, Tony Ngalande, who resoundingly defeated Lucius Banda, at the parliamentary polls last year.
Lucius Banda is UTM member and Presidential Advisor on Youth and Arts.
MCP and UTM are alliance partners together with other seven political parties including the People’s Party (PP) of Joyce Banda.
Reports reaching the Maravi Post indicate there might be trouble brewing between the main two partners UTM and MCP in the Tonse Alliance.
According to people inside both camps, The Malawi Congress party (MCP) and UTM are engaged in a bitter fight for supremacy. The fight comes against the background that Sidik Mia who it is not a hidden secret sponsored Lazarus Chakwera’s rise to power, using money he stole from DPP when he served as secretary-general, believes he deserves to be treated as Vice President of Malawi and not Saulos Chilima.
The arrangement that Sidik Mia who apart from being currently serving as Minister of Transport and Public Works since June 2020, is also the Deputy President of the Malawi Congress Party is acting as Vice President has angered Saulos Chilima who has instructed his media team to go flat out on Sidik Mia.
This has seen Malawi Congress party (MCP) media team coming out in defence of their cash cow Sidik Mia.
Compounding the issues is the history of Saulos Chilima, who is known to indulge in one or two alcoholic drinks and at the moment is not having none of the Shenanigans from Sidik Mia.
Former President Bakili Muluzi shared on his Facebook page that Saulos Chilima has a history of never been in good terms with his bosses in all the jobs he has had, while Mia has not been employed anywhere since he has no papers.
Bakili writes Mia and Chilima are both serving in the “Nyau May Try Govt”; that was put in power through a judicial coup.
The fighting is coming while Malawians are waiting for promises made by the *Nyau may try govt*.The promises include: three meals a day, cheap fertilizer, 1 million jobs in a year for the youth, a bullet train connecting Malawi from Chitipa to Nsanje and 100 thousand nontaxable salary among others.
BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Minister of Transport and Public Works Sidik Mia has disputed reports that he had 27 vehicles on his motorcade yesterday as he was on duty tour in the Southern Region, saying the other vehicles were for contractors.
Malawians were shocked on Wednesday to see cabinet ministers Mia and Lobin Lowe being escorted by 27 and 28 vehicles respectively on their duty tour in the Southern region.
Minister of Transport Mia had an entourage of 27 vehicles as he was inspecting the Thyolo-Muona road while Minister of Agriculture Lobin Lowe had about 28 vehicles on his duty tour in the Lower Shire.
Reacting, Mia said it was misrepresentation of facts as most of the vehicles on his motorcade were for contractors.
According to Mia, his office had only four vehicles and only relevant officers were on the entourage.
“I cannot rule on the other contractors not to use different vehicles. They have got engineers, they have got directors and they have got different capacities who serve the same interest. Therefore, it is not my duty to stop them in riding different vehicles.
“For us as a ministry you can see I have my PA (Personal Assistant), my deputy minister and director of roads who has been accompanied by director of railways who are relevant to this. If I was travelling alone it would just be four vehicles. But to exaggerate that we are using more than what is necessary is not true and it is very pathetic to report in that manner,” said Mia in an interview with MBC.
Mia, however, has hinted that in subsequent duty tours he will advise the relevant stakeholders to use a bus considering the number of people on the entourage to avoid wastage of resources.
President Chakwera and his vice Chilima are championing public sector reforms, aimed at reducing unnecessary expenditure while ensuring efficiency.
President Chakwera reduced the number of vehicles on his convoy to 10 and maintain the vehicles which were used by former President Peter Mutharika as one of the measures to ensure that tax payers’ funds are not wasted.
He also said that he expects cabinet ministers to introduce measures aimed at reducing government spending.
According to Chakwera, the aim is to reduce wastage of resources and reduce the amount of public funds used by people in public positions.
BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—As president Lazarus Chakwera has reduced vehicles on his convoy to only 10, Malawians were shocked on Wednesday to see cabinet ministers Sidik Mia and Lobin Lowe being escorted by 27 and 28 vehicles respectively on their duty tour in the Southern region.
Minister of Transport Mia had an entourage of 27 vehicles as he was inspecting the Thyolo-Muona road while Minister of Agriculture Lobin Lowe had about 28 vehicles on his duty tour in the Lower Shire.
It is estimated that most of the vehicles consume between 70 to 90 litres to fill their voluminous tanks.
The development comes as President Chakwera and his vice Chilima are championing public sector reforms, aimed at reducing unnecessary expenditure while ensuring efficiency.
Malawians will obviously wait for a reaction from Chakwera to the lavishness displayed by the two senior cabinet ministers.
Apart from being a cabinet minister, Sidik Mia is also the Vice President of the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Mia drums support for MCP-UTM alliance in Lower Shire
BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—The Malawi Congress Congress Party (MCP) Lower Shire Political heavyweight Mohammed Sidik Mia has urged people in the region to vote for Lazarus Chakwera in the forthcoming fresh presidential election slated for July 2.
Mia made the appeal during his first whistle stop tour in Chikwawa district after the Supreme Court of Appeal upheld the Constitution Court ruling that nullified the May 2019 presidential poll.
He said an alliance of MCP and UTM with Lazarus Chakwera as torchbearer is the only hope for better Malawi saying the current leadership is clueless of how Malawians can be emancipated from the chains of abject poverty.
“People are eager to see change in this country. So as one of the patriotic citizens, I sacrificed my position to pave way for the combination of Chakwera and Chilima in the forthcoming election because that is the sure way of bringing change in the country.
“I am ready to work with Chakwera and Chilima to develop Malawi. I have closely known Dr Lazarus Chakwera and, believe you me, he will be the best President Malawi has ever had,” said Mia.
Mia also refuted rumours that he is joining Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
“I am the one who facilitated the alliance because I want change. It is not only through the office of the Vice President that one can contribute to the development of the country. There are different ways of doing that.
“The combination of UTM and MCP is the only hope amid the sufferings which are a product of the DPP mediocre leadership,” he said.
According to Mia, Malawi has crashed because of the DPP mediocre leadership and that the majority of Malawians are suffering and only few people connected to power are happy because most of them have become instant billionaires posing as entrepreneurs.
He said it is high time the cartel stopped from advancing their selfish interests at the expense of the nation.
Mia is currently regarded as a political mirror and giant of lower shire.
He is heavily supported by his wife Abida Mia who is not an ordinary lady but she is also a standalone politician.
Abida is the current Member of Parliament (MP) of Chikwawa Mkombezi after defeating Peter Mutharika’s ‘good boy’ Gerald Viola.
