Mzuzu-(Marapost)–Political  analyst, Wonderful Mkhutche, has punched holes in Kondwani Namkhumwa’s faith that the immediate past President of Malawi, Arthur Peter Muthalika, is still strong and agile to still lead the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Speaking in a local radio program, Kondwani Namkhumwa, who is also the leader of opposition in the general assembly, asserted that it is only a party convention slated in 2024 that will decide Mutharika’s fate; but at the present, he remains the leader of the party and a possible torchbearer come 2025 presidential polls.

“I find it a ridicule that some people are saying Professor Mutharika is old and must leave the party leadership to others. I believe people work according to their bodies and minds. I have seen people working at the age of 90. Why should people say Mutharika is too old to lead a party?,” posed Namkhumwa.

However, while expressing his contrary views on Namkhumwa’s assertions, Mkhutche said DPP would be better and probably bounce back to power if Mutharika relinquished its leadership to a prominent leader.

Mkhutche said: “For the party to look back and hope for power as a strong party as it wished, it should just do away with Peter Mutharika, and then after that, that is when the party is going to find a good direction for itself.”

During the 23, June, 2020 fresh presidential polls, Professor Mutharika, who until then was the Head of State for the country, lost the election to Dr Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) who joined forces with Dr Saulos Chilima of UTM Party and other seven political parties. A snapshot survey revealed that most Malawians lost trust in Peter Mutharika’s leadership and the poor governance that engulfed Malawi.

Opposition, social commentators censure President Mutharika for instituting 21-day nationwide lockdown

Presidential guidelines during the lockdown period

While the presidential declaration of the 21-day national lockdown due to Covid 19 pandemic seems to be the lasting solution, some opposition political parties and social commentators in Malawi feel the move is an infringer on the part of those whose lives depend on informal employment in order to fend for the day.

According to UTM President, Saulos Chilima, who is also the Vice President of Malawi, the 21-day national lockdown that is to take effect from 18 April to 9 May, 2020, and be extended further should it not serve the intended purpose, is a raw deal to a common man on the street whose life solely depends on casual labour of the day to fend for himself

In his social media post, Chilima challenges the authority to think about some people who stay in such high density townships as Kauma Mtandire, Chinsapo Areas in Lilongwe, Mbayani, Ntopwa, Bangwe Areas in Blantyre, Uliwa in Karonga and many others in the country.

Chilima wonders where such people will get their day to day food during this period when most sources of their hand to mouth earnings will be hanged up.

Echoing similar sentiments is a Zomba based social commentator, Wonderful Mkhutche, who feels the 21-day national lockdown is but a copied and pasted policy from western countries whose economies are way better than Malawi’s.

Mkhutche, on his social media platform says: “Not in support of the Lockdown. We are doing this under peer pressure. It has detrimental effects in our situation and there were other thousand ways to handle this. We cannot sacrifice millions of lives to a disease that has now just infected 16 out of 17.5 million people. We should have intensified testing and quarantine to let lives of millions keep on moving.”

On Tuesday, President Arthur Peter Mutharika announced a 21 day national lockdown as one of the newest measures to curb further spread of the disease. About 16 people, in the country, have tested positive for the disease and two have died of the same.

‘I am where I prophesied I would be’—Prophet Shepherd Bushiri

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri: ‘I am where I prophesied I would be’

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—As Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic continues ravaging the world; many people have turned to God with some sarcastically asking the whereabouts of some renowned prophets who have been performing miracles during their services.

Social media has recently been awash with negative comments directed to prophets especially those in Africa for hiding amid the outbreak of the Coronavirus, leaving the battle against the deadly virus to scientists.

“Now that Coronavirus is reigning havoc, even churches have closed down to let science do its job. They will come in with testimonies after all is over,” wrote Wonderful Mkhutche on his facebook page.

But reacting to the comments, Malawian born but South Africa based Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, has said what is happening now is a fulfillment of his prophecy he proclaimed back in 2018.

“Where are those Prophets now? Were they not healing the sick, so where are they?” This is a very common question now. Well, as for me, I am where I said I would be back in 2018 when I prophesied that, a time would come and I would disappear,” wrote Bushiri.

He added: “Not only me, I specifically mentioned that all prophets would disappear for a while. People would look for us in hunger for God.

“To all my followers, I told you this beforehand, and advised you to buy Bibles way before the lockdown. I hope you listened. Enjoy reading them and studying to show yourself approved unto God until all is over. And to those on social media busy asking where prophets are now, we are where I prophesied we would be, home!”

Prophet Bushiri is known in Africa and the whole world for his miracles.

Bushiri has come a long way from his upbringing in Mzuzu, a city in northern Malawi.

Nowadays, he can fill sports stadia with tens of thousands of his devoted followers – followers who are prepared to travel across the world to see him preach in person.

He has regular visitors from the US, the UK and even Asia.
