LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Peter Mutharika on Tuesday urged the newly sworn-in Minister of Industry, Business, Trade and Tourism, Simon Itaye, to provide honest, objective and patriotic advice in the execution of his duties.

Mutharika made the remarks at Kamuzu Palace in the capital Lilongwe during Itaye’s swearing-in ceremony, stressing that truthfulness and integrity are non-negotiable in public service.

The Malawi leader emphasised the need the ministry to the country’s recovery and growth, noting that it holds immense potential to drive socio-economic transformation.

Mutharika said that facts must always be presented as they are, without sugar-coating or misleading the public, adding that the office must serve the interests of Malawians and not personal gain.

The President said Itaye’s appointment is based on his credentials and the confidence that he can effectively manage a ministry with great potential to drive socio-economic transformation in the country.

He observed that the minister joins Cabinet at a critical time when Malawi is gradually recovering from a period of economic instability, warning that there will be no honeymoon period.

Mutharika therefore called on the new minister to uphold integrity, responsibility, and service to the people of Malawi.

“I have every hope that you will excel in your portfolio and deliver tangible results to the sector,” said President Mutharika.

In his remarks, the Minister said the appointment comes at a critical time as Malawi continues its efforts to stabilise the economy and promote industrialisation, trade, business development, and tourism as key drivers of growth.

Itaye replaces George Partridge, who has been appointed Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM).
