MACHINGA-(MaraviPost)-Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) leader Atupele Muluzi had a rude awakening over the weekend when his former constituents at home district, Machinga booed him for lying that he got Chinese government invitation soon after nullified May 21, 2019 polls results were announced.

The UDF leader appears to be passing through a hard time amid his electoral alliance with President Peter Mutharika’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Video circulating on social media that we have watched shows the junior Muluzi booed while addressing locals at his home village of Kapoloma.

In the video clip, Atupele wanted to start by apologizing for not visiting the locals in long time.

However, things got sour when the son of former president Bakili Muluzi gave a statement that had no element of truth in it.

Atupele: Caught lying and booed

“Choyamba ndipepese  posakuyendelani kwa nthawi yayitali , ineyo ndinapita ku china komwe President Xi Jinpin anandiyitana ( Sorry that I have been around to see you, I was in China under the invitation of Chines President Xi Jinping)” said Atupele. At this point the locals couldn’t stomach his lie and started booing him.  Atupele told the nation when he left for China soon after the general elections that he was going  for a study trip

The Maravi Post understands that the Chinese Embassy in Malawi denied Atupele’s claims that was invited by the Chinese President.

The embassy hinted has no record of President Xi Jinping inviting the young Muluzi.

Kapoloma Village was once UDF’s stronghold that witnessing locals booing him shows how unpopular the young Muluzi is.

Atupele is struggling to gather momentum while eyeing for President Mutharika’s hand pick as running-mate ahead of fresh presidential elections.
