United Kingdom (UK) Department for International Development (DFID) announced Monday that it has provided emergency assistance ranging from food to nonfood items to people affected by floods in Malawi. The assistance include food, water, shelter and sanitation services.
Head of DFID in Malawi, Jen Marshal said the UK is deeply saddened by the suffering and loss of life due to the floods in the country.
“The UK is working with UN and international Non Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) to support Malawi in its response,” she said.
Marshal added that immediate assistance had been mobilized and the department was continuing to monitor the situation for potential further UK’s support following the release of Malawi’s response plan.
In weeks to come, she said, the UK’s aid will also help people to rebuild their homes and livelihoods.
