CHICAGO-(MaraviPost)-At least 14 people have hospitalized nursing various degrees of injuries ranging from serious to critical following mass shootings outside a funeral home in Gresham on Tuesday evening.

First Deputy Superintendent Eric Carter confirmed the incident.

Carter said the mourners were outside a funeral home when shots were fired upon them from a passing SUV which later crashed before the shooters fled the scene.

At least 60 shell casings were found at the scene of the shooting and it wasn’t immediately known if anyone other than attendees of the funeral were victims.

The victims, youngest 21, were taken by the Chicago Fire Department to nearby hospitals with various degrees of injuries and one victim, the 65-year-old was treated at the scene.

The shooting comes following reports that federal agents are to be deployed to the city a week after a man was fatally shot in the Englewood neighborhood.

Commenting on the matter, Mayor Lori Lightfoot has asked anyone with information relating to the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
