UTM to hold peaceful primary elections on Jan 3

UTM party officials have disclosed that the party will hold its first primary elections on 3 January 2019 form months before the tripartite elections.

The party’s spokesman, Chidanti Malunga told this reporter in a phone interview that everything is ready.

According to Malunga, the candidates will pay a nomination fee to the party.

However, he said the nomination fee will be in different amount inline with the position.

For instance, a legislature aspirant is expected to pay MK50,000 while a councilor will pay MK25,000.

He said UTM will be the first party in the country to hold a peaceful primary elections.

UTM hold its first national convention on December 17, 2018.

The out come of the convention however received criticism from Malawians claiming the senior positions were only taken by candidates from the southern region.
