Veep Ansah downplays department removal controversy

1 Min Read

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah has stated that she cannot question President Peter Mutharika’s decision to remove two key departments from her office, citing her delegated powers.

Speaking at a chieftaincy celebration in Lilongwe, Dr. Ansah emphasized that the country’s constitution outlines job descriptions for the president, but not the vice president.

Dr. Ansah maintained that she has faithfully discharged her duties, highlighting her pre-leave visits to various parts of the country to ensure smooth distribution of relief items.

She noted that President Mutharika did not provide reasons for assigning her specific roles.

The departments in question, Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) and Public Sector Reforms Management, were recently transferred to the Office of the President and Cabinet.

This move has sparked debate, with some interpreting it as a reduction of Dr. Ansah’s authority.
