CHITIPA-(MaraviPost)-Mighty Wanderers’ pursuit of the 2025 Super League title suffered another setback on Sunday as they were forced to settle for a frustrating 0-0 draw against Chitipa United at Chitipa Stadium, their eighth draw of the campaign.
The Nomads, who entered the match sitting second on the table, were aiming to tighten their grip on the title race.
Instead, they walked away with yet another stalemate in a season increasingly defined by missed chances and dropped points.
Chitipa started brightly, attacking in waves as they pressed for an early breakthrough. Despite their energy, their finishing lacked precision.
Wanderers survived the opening pressure but soon had a golden chance of their own when Blessings Mwalilino found himself with only the goalkeeper to beat in the ninth minute.
Shockingly, he dragged his effort wide, leaving Wanderers supporters stunned.
Moments later, Chitipa returned the favour. Forward Trouble Kajani beat the Wanderers defence but failed to hit the target, wasting what looked like a certain opener.
The first half continued with both teams creating but failing to convert.
The final minutes saw both sides pushing for a decisive goal but neither had the sharpness to claim the winner.
The match ended goalless, with Chitipa’s Fahad Mtcheka named Man of the Match for his commanding defensive display.
Speaking after the match, Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira admitted disappointment, saying his side tried everything to secure maximum points but failed to convert the chances that came their way.
“It’s part of the game,” Mpinganjira, though visibly frustrated.
Chitipa United head coach Kondwa Ikwanga believed his side could have taken all three points, especially based on their strong first-half showing.
He, however, welcomed the point as his team continues its push to finish within the top eight.
After 24 matches, Wanderers remain second on 56 points but their tally of eight draws continues to weigh heavily on their title ambitions while Chitipa United sit 10th with 33 points from 26 games.
In another fixture, Goshen City Dedza Dynamos beat MAFCO FC 2-1 at Dedza Stadium. George Mboma opened the scoring early before Chifundo Moloson equalised with a powerful strike.
Dedza regained the lead through Mboma’s second goal and held off late pressure from MAFCO. After the match, MAFCO coach Stereo Gondwe accepted the result while Dedza coach Alex Ngwira praised his players for sticking to their tactical discipline.
Goshen City Dedza Dynamos sit on 11th position with 30 points from 27 matches while Mafco remain on 13 position with 28 points form the same number of matches.
