Zambia’s Electoral Commission sets October 13, 2025 to kickstart mass voters registration

LUSAKA-(MaraviPost)-The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has officially announced that Mass Voter Registration is expected to begin on October 13, 2025.

This milestone is a key step in the preparations for the 2026 General Election.

The announcement was made during a stakeholders meeting held on Friday, 15th August 2025.

The meeting brought together representatives from political parties, civil society and faith-based organizations, and the media.

In her address, ECZ Chairperson Mrs. Mwangala Zaloumis, SC, informed stakeholders that the mass voter registration exercise will be conducted across all 156 constituencies.

The exercise will target approximately 3.5 million eligible voters, a figure based on the latest data from the Zambia Statistics Agency.

The mass voter registration exercise is expected to be conducted at designated centres across the country.

It will offer services such as new voter registrations, replacement of lost or damaged voter cards, and transfer of polling stations.

Mrs. Zaloumis emphasized that individuals who already possess voter cards issued in 2020 or obtained during the continuous registration period will not be required to register again.

She urged all eligible Zambians to participate in the registration process to ensure their voices are heard in the upcoming elections.

The Electoral Commission highlighted that the mass registration exercise is critical in enhancing voter participation and ensuring that the 2026 General Election reflects the will of the people.

ECZ also reassured stakeholders that measures will be put in place to ensure a smooth, transparent, and secure registration process.

Civil society organizations welcomed the announcement, calling on political parties to educate their supporters and encourage compliance with the registration process.

Meanwhile, political analysts noted that the exercise will provide a fresh and accurate voters’ roll, reducing disputes over voter eligibility during the elections.

The registration exercise is also expected to strengthen Zambia’s democratic process by increasing transparency and inclusivity in the electoral system.

Concluding Analysis

The decision by ECZ to commence mass voter registration on 13th October 2025 demonstrates the Commission’s commitment to ensuring an inclusive and credible electoral process.

Targeting over 3.5 million eligible voters across all 156 constituencies shows the scale and seriousness of the exercise.

By allowing services such as replacement of lost or damaged voter cards and polling station transfers, ECZ is making the process accessible to all citizens.

However, the success of the exercise will depend on active civic education, public awareness, and cooperation from political parties and stakeholders.

Ultimately, a transparent and efficient mass voter registration is foundational for free, fair, and credible elections in Zambia, setting the stage for a robust 2026 General Election.
