The Centre For The Future (CFF) Think Tank Branch says Malawi for years fail to come to terms with reality ever since 1994, its vision and development agenda have developed or planned through political or democratic opinions of individuals.
The CFF has reminded Malawians of the First Past The Post (FPTP] which was constitutional, 26 years later Malawians changed it to be 50+1 through political opinion today.
The grouping observes that the same political opinion has pushed learned lawyers to ponder if it was right to adopt 50+1 saying soon or later towards 2025 the very same political opinion will plant another policy of Federal government.
The organization says all these political opinions are coming because Malawi as a country is failing to adopt a vision that blankets the interest of all, after 1994, Malawians have been adopting policies and rules based on political opinion not reality saying Malawi is a fallen state to date.
Pioneer of Mindset Change project who is also the Founder of CFF Think Tank Branch, Bantu Saunders Jumah, says the Tonse Alliance government is a victim of political opinions, claiming that some individuals who hate it and do not wish it well are influencing an opinion that is failing it or has failed.
Jumah said the UDF faced similar challenges from 1994 to 1997 to the point of late Reverend Dr. Dumbo Lemani initiated a meeting between Dr. Bakili Muluzi and Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda to ease tension that blocked Muluzi to run Malawi the best of his ability.
He said today, the same Tonse Alliance government and Presiden Lazarus Chakwera are facing hardships and tough time not because they are failing but Malawi is led and ruled by political opinion of individuals
“As a Think Tank, it is our obligation to influence change on political opinion, Lawyers are reviewing the 50+1 trying shortchanging the policy based on political opinion that there is bad blood between Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and Dr. Saulosi Chilima, a political opinion has emerged where some individuals wants to create a space in favoring Dr. Chilima against Dr. Chakwera,” said Jumah.
The Mind-set Change Pioneer has urged members of the Think Tank to deplore political opinion destroying the country’s plight saying if Malawians wants to adopt 50+1 let it be.
He added that it is up to political parties to canvass or stretch their manifestos so that they can be winning above 50+1 threshold.
He advised those reviewing the 50+1 to revise it without looking at potential winners or losers, not imposing policies and rules based on political opinion of selected individuals.
