Malawi Judiciary goes digital on GBV

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-In fight against gender based violent in the judiciary (United Nations Development program (UNDP) under spotlight initiative is supporting National Statistics Office (NSO) and Malawi judiciary (MDJP) in the validation of Malawi judiciary gender based violent (GBV) through the introduction of digital data management system.

MDJP’s Justice Joseph Chigona disclosed this on Friday during case management validation meeting.

Chigona said in absence of the digital system the judiciary slowness in registration of the cases and hard to capture data.

He said they are expecting to orient the system as it is only 3 months old in function.

In her remarks, National Coordinator for spotlight initiative program, Teemar Kidane said the program is European Union and United Nations multi-faced global programme in Africa and Malawi is one of the 8 countries implementing the program.

Kidane said the program aims at improving capacities to response to GBV through behavior change and improved quality and essential service delivery and dissemination of quality GBV data and strengthen women rights movements.

He said the initiative treats GBV data and information as one integral areas that Malawi need to improve in order to have an evidence baseline with international human rights standard.

Kdane said the judiciary remains one of the critical partners for ensuring access to justice for women and girls who have survived GBV.

He therefore applauded NSO and UNDP commitment in supporting the justice delivery for the millions of women and girls experiencing violence and abuse through the spotlight initiative.
