LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-High Court Judge Kenyatta Nyirenda on Thursday, February 10, 2022 ruled that Malawi police officers with degrees be promoted to superintendent and senior superintendent positions.

This ruling follows a five year long protracted battle in which 53 police officers dragged to court their employer, Malawi Police Service (MPS).

MPS adjusted grades and ranks of some junior police officers during its 2017 restructuring exercise leaving out degree holders.

In his ten page ruling the learned judge said that what happened was segregation on the part of the graduates.

He has advised the Inspectors General of Police and the Attorney General that the police officers be double promoted before thirty days elapse and should be given salary arrears with effect from 1st July, 2017 the time their promotion was due.
