The five were arrested in the wee hours of the day at Hewe area in the district.

According to police report the wrangle erupted at Hewe between two families where one person Jonathan Ng’ambi died from natural causes on March 2,2022 and was laid to rest on March 4, 2022.
During the funeral ceremony, it is alleged that Group Village Headman Yateta accused some members of Chawinga family of bewitching Jonathan Ng’ambi.
This angered the relatives of the deceased and on March 11, 2022, they went on rampage to Chawinga’s family and demolished four houses.
The Officer-in-charge for Rumphi Police Station Gerald Chiwanda has since condemned the barbaric act.
Chiwanda has urged the members of the community not to rush to mob justice whenever there is a misunderstanding.
“Report to relevant authorities, including the police, in order to settle matters in your community amicably and legally,” advised Chiwanda.
The five are expected to appear before court soon to answer the charge leveled against them.
