Zomba, January 4:  As one way of reducing under five and maternal deaths in the country, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Zomba Lisanjala Constituency Enock Elias Luka donated an ambulance to the constituency.

The donation of the ambulance will assist in reducing referral problems at Mambo and Nkasala Health Centres in the constituency.

e is much concerned with the way people in the area suffer after being referred to Zomba Central Hospital (ZCH) from Mambo and Nkasala Health Centres due to transportation problem.

Luka also said sometimes dead bodies at ZCH mortuary take many days before being transported to home village for burial.

‘I am very much concerned with referral problems in my area. On top of that it has been taking some days before dead bodies are transported back home from ZCH’ said Luka.

He also said that he has made this donation to fulfill one of the promises he made during May 20 Tripartite Election Campaign.

Luka said he don’t take voters for granted as some MPs do, but rather he wants to share the fruits with constituents.

He said the donated ambulance is just a supplement to already available Government ambulance and this will be operating in absence of this MOH ambulance due to breakdown.

The legislature said the ambulance will assist to reduce under five and maternal deaths in the area.

He asked the community to use the ambulance for intended purpose.

Laboratory Assistant at Nkasala Health Centre, Frank Nazombe commended the Parliamentarian for fulfilling his promise in the constituency.

Nazombe said as an institution, will make sure that the ambulance is properly used for referrals since it has been taking time for ambulance from Zomba DHO to come to assist patients at Nkasala health centre.

Senior Group Village Headwoman Nkasala hailed the law maker for fulfilling the promise seven months since he made the promise during campaign time.

SGVH Nkasala said it is the first time for a law maker to donate such ambulance to the community and asked the community to look after it.
