LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Former Unity Minister and Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) chairperson Timothy Mtambo is expected to register his hand and neck bangles in line with the Wildlife Act.

Principal National Parks and Wildlife Officer, Alex Chunga revealed the development at Mponera on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, during media training on wildlife.

Chunga said every bangle that has wildlife features is required to be paid for yearly.

He said once the bangles are registered the owner is not allowed to put on them on his trips outside the country.

Chunga added that the department is yet to meet the former minister to legalize his bangles.

“We know that bangles are worn for different purposes as we know that the former minister is a titled Chief in his district but since his bangles have wildlife features he is supposed to register them,” said Chunga.

Mtambo is well known for his traditional bangles during national demonstrations that advocated for President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance government.

He is the Commander in Chief of the Citizen for Transformation Movement (CFT).
