LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Religious leaders are urging government to safeguard resources by dealing with corruption in all government departments.
Senior Secretary for Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM), Reverend Francis Mkandawire made the remarks on Wednesday January 10, during 2024-205 fiscal budget preparation meeting in Lilongwe.
Mkandawire said government should provide adequate resources to institutions that fight against corruption like the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), Financial Intelligence Services (FIS) , Fiscal Police (FP) and among other things.
He said every civil servant should declare their assets inline with his salary.
He added that government should invest in young people as 70 percent of the population represent them.
He calls upon the current regime to emulate from what the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government was doing in establishing more technical colleges for the youths.
“We are grateful with the technical colleges that are boosting the lives of the youths but we are looking forward to more initiatives,” said Kamwendo.
In his remarks, Minister of Finance Simplex Chithyola has assured the religious leaders that government will consider their request as they have a big role in sensitizing the communities through their congregations platforms.
Chithyola said religious leaders have helped government to disseminate several information like the Covid 19 and Cholera which had brought a huge impact to the country.
Ministry of Finance continues to engage different stakeholders prior to 2024-2025 fiscal Budget presentation in the August House.
