LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Used Car Dealers Association on Friday 15, 2024 petitioned Malawi Parliament against Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) decision to auction unclear vehicles in borders borders.

This due to heavy tax clearance that President Lazarus Chakwera’sTonse Alliance government has introduced impeding dealers to pay.

Presenting the petition to the August House, Chairperson for the association, Themba Mkandawire said car delears are failing to pay duty for the imported motor vehicles due to heavy taxes MRA introduced.

“MRA announced will auction motor vehicles that are at the border posts that we failed to clear due to heavy taxes.

“We are greatly affected heavy taxes that were gazette by previous Minister of Finance, Sosten Gwengwe last year”, laments Mkandawire.

He therefore believes that Members of Parliament (MPs) will intervene in resolving the issues.

“Parliament should stop MRA auctioning our motor vehicles due to heavy and new gazetted taxes,” said Mkandawire.

Receiving the Petition, Blantyre Malabada legislator Ishmael Nkumba said he will present the petition to the August House for the appropriate committee to consult the responsible ministry.
