The village of Agabu in Sharpe Valley, Kasinje in Ntcheu, had never seen such a celebrity funeral.
Hundreds of people–from media practioners, politicians and all manner of people assembled at this rural and dusty village to bury BBC correspondent and popular columnist Raphael Tenthani who died Saturday evening in a road accident along the Blantyre- Lilongwe highway.
Former president Bakili Muluzi and Info minister Kondwani Nankhumwa were all there, so was opposition MP Jessie Kabwila.
London-based BBC producer Chakuchanya Harawa, who arrived at the graveyard, made a glowing tribute of Rafu, describing him as a professional loved at the BBC
Many others spoke highly of Rafu, saying he was a fearless writer in his Sunday Times column.
Maravi post also carried the column and many articles by Raphael Tenthani on its website.
Many of his fellow journalists were short of words about Rafu’s loss and dying at the age of 44 when his career was blossoming
