141 legislatures out of 193 members Parliament are absent with only 51 members present in the August house in the second day of deliberations.
The 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Aisha Adams, revealed this in the August House on Tuesday, February 18, after the house had conducted an early roll call before today’s deliberation had commenced.
After noticing that members were not present in the August house, Chimwendo Banda, the Leader of the House, asked the speaker to conduct a voice roll call.
According to Malawi Parliamentary standing orders, Members who are recorded absent without notice are likely to face a deduction in allowance for the day.
