Malawian Thokozire Kuwali Elected Chairperson of African Federation of Institutes of Internal Auditors

In a significant achievement for Malawi’s internal audit profession, Thokozire Kuwali has been elected as the Chairperson of the African Federation of Institutes of Internal Auditors (AFIIA).

Kuwali, a renowned internal audit practitioner and Group Head of Internal Audit at Nico Holdings, was elected during the Federation’s annual conference held in Kigali, Rwanda, from May 26 to 30, 2025.

Kuwali, who is also a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors in Malawi (IIA), expressed her excitement about the election and highlighted her main focus as Chairperson.

“My main objective will be to unite institutes of internal audits across the continent, ensuring that we speak with one voice and promote the internal audit profession,” Kuwali said in an interview with ZodiakOnline upon her return from the conference.

The election of Kuwali to this prestigious position is a testament to her expertise and dedication to the internal audit profession.

Her leadership will be crucial in shaping the future of internal audit in Africa and promoting best practices across the continent.

Albert Dambula, Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Internal Auditors Malawi, congratulated Kuwali on her election and expressed pride in her achievement.

“We are delighted that one of our members has been elected to this position, which demonstrates the growth and recognition of the internal audit profession in Malawi,” Dambula said.

Kuwali’s election as Chairperson of the AFIIA is a significant milestone for Malawi and the internal audit profession in Africa.

Her leadership and vision will play a critical role in promoting the profession and driving its development across the continent.
