Chithyola Donates MK5 Million and 20 Bags of Maize to Santhe Masjid

LILONGWE (MaraviPost): As part of the Eid Ul Adha celebrations, Malawi’s Minister of Finance, Simplex Chithyola, has donated MK5 million and 20 bags of maize to Santhe Masjid in Kasungu District.

The donation was officially handed over on Saturday, June 7, by Lackson Mbang’ombe, who represented the minister at the event.

Mbang’ombe stated that Chithyola was fulfilling a pledge he had made earlier to support the Muslim community during this important religious occasion.

“The Minister has lived and worked with people from all walks of life and different tribes, which has shaped his understanding of unity and coexistence. This donation is a reflection of that spirit,” Mbang’ombe said.

Receiving the donation, the Santhe Masjid Sheikh ,Muhammad Halid expressed gratitude and commended Minister Chithyola for his inclusive leadership.

“This gesture shows that Chithyola values all Malawians regardless of tribe or religion. His leadership continues to uplift and unite communities,” said Kamanga.

Concurring with Sheikh Halid, Chairperson for Santhe Masijid,Milwad Kamanga praised the government for its progressive stance on religious freedom, especially its support for Muslim girls wearing hijabs in schools.

“We thank the government for promoting religious inclusion and respect. As Muslims, we stand behind the current administration and the leadership of the Finance Minister,” Sheikh Saudi declared.

The donation was welcomed with joy and appreciation by the Santhe Muslim community, who described it as timely and impactful ahead of the Eid festivities.

Meanwhile Government has officially declared Monday, June 9, 2025, a public holiday in observance of Eid ul-Adha also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is one of the most significant events in the Muslim calendar, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.
