Former Malawi President Chakwera under surveillance over state House’s dog theft

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police are on surveillance and search on former President Lazarus Chakwera’s private residence in Area 10, Lilongwe, following a court warrant.

The search was prompted by allegations that Chakwera was keeping police dogs allegedly linked to a suspect’s evidence.

According to Government spokesperson Shadrick Namalomba, police had approached Chakwera to release the dogs, but he insisted on a court search warrant. “It is a warrant to search, not a warrant to arrest. The former president is not under arrest,” Namalomba clarified.

The police obtained the warrant and conducted the search. The move has sparked debate, with some questioning the timing and motivations behind the search.

Chakwera’s Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson Jessie kabwira said she was annoyed with police’s actions.

Meanwhile, former state House chief of staff Godfrey Arthur Jalale is still police custody on four dogs theft.
