MANGOCHI-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Vice President Jane Ansah brought the 2025 Cabinet Retreat in Mangochi to a close with a firm appeal for renewed discipline, focus, and measurable progress across all arms of Government.
The three-day gathering, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), offered ministers a structured space to examine how best to advance President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s national development agenda under the theme centred on building resilience, strengthening governance, and enhancing strategic partnerships.
Using her closing address to challenge long-standing bureaucratic habits, Dr Ansah underscored the necessity for a more efficient, responsive, and citizen-centred administration, reminding ministers that Malawians—after enduring years of economic pressure—are seeking leadership that earns their trust through action, not rhetoric.
She cautioned against the temptation of self-interest within public office and reiterated the President’s position that every office-bearer carries an obligation to deliver tangible public value, guided by integrity and genuine commitment to national service.
In reviewing the contributions made during the sessions, the Vice President applauded the facilitators and technical experts who guided the discussions, noting that their insights linked directly with the DPP Manifesto and the long-term aspirations of Malawi 2063, particularly in agriculture, industry, and urban transformation.
Dr Ansah commended Cabinet Members for their stamina and openness throughout the retreat, highlighting the quality of dialogue and the professionalism shown by session moderators in steering productive engagement.
She extended warm appreciation to UNDP for its continued partnership, financial backing, and the provision of specialised expertise, including support for the gala dinner that helped cement collaboration at a critical time for the country’s governance agenda.
Before closing the retreat, Dr Ansah reminded the Cabinet that its success will be judged not by the volume of discussions but by the speed and seriousness with which agreed strategies are executed, echoing President Mutharika’s insistence on ending repetitive meetings and prioritising real delivery.
She then formally concluded the 2025 Malawi Cabinet Retreat, urging ministers to uphold unity and purpose as they return to their portfolios to implement the commitments made for the benefit of all Malawians.
