BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has addressed concerns about an imminent nationwide fuel shortage, stating that the country has adequate fuel volumes for transport and internal use, and there is no need to worry about any widespread shortages.
MERA explained that the current intermittent fuel supply is due to logistical challenges and delays in shipment or border clearance, which are being resolved expeditiously.
The authority is working closely with fuel importers, transporters, and stakeholders to expedite replenishment and ensure timely delivery to meet national demand.
The public is assured that measures are in place to ensure continued fuel supply security.
MERA cautioned against panic buying, urging citizens to rely on official statements from the authority or credible sources to avoid fuel disruptions caused by unverified rumors circulating on social media.
