COLORADO-(MaraviPost)-A man who jumped a perimeter fence at Denver International Airport was struck and killed by a Frontier Airlines jet, officials confirmed Tuesday.
The incident occurred late Friday, and authorities have ruled it an apparent suicide.
The unidentified individual gained access to the tarmac, prompting an investigation by local authorities and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
The airport’s statement expressed sadness over the incident, saying, “We are extremely saddened by this incident and express our sympathies to those involved”.
The Frontier Airlines flight, bound for Los Angeles International Airport, had 231 people on board, with 12 suffering minor injuries and five hospitalized.
The airport emphasized that the fenceline was intact, and the individual is not believed to be an employee.
Denver International Airport, which serves around 225,000 people daily, has seen airport safety come under scrutiny recently.
This incident follows a Delta employee’s death at Orlando International Airport and a crash at LaGuardia Airport involving an Air Canada Express plane.
