Chitipa DC takes charity across the border into Ileje District in Tanzania

Chitipa District Commissioner, Grace Zione Chirwa has commended Ileje District in Tanzania for its determination to promote the welfare of orphans and other vulnerable children.

She made the commendation on New Year’s Day, 1st January, 2016, when she visited nonresidential orphan Care Center at Ileje District Headquarters, to cheer the orphans.

Chirwa said she was particularly impressed that besides providing basic needs to orphans, the district council was also committed in ensuring that all orphans recruited under the care center have equal access to basic education.

“Just like any other children with both parents alive, orphans require basic needs to look at life as hopeful and meaningful and education to mold them into self-reliant and responsible country citizens who can contribute effectively to building the nation,” said Chirwa.

Chirwa, who donated food items such as bread, sugar, lotion and soap among others, said she appreciates the responsibility of looking after orphans, especially in times of limited resources.

Ileje District organized a special function for the orphans to celebrate New Year’s Day, which was characterized by food galore; a gesture Chirwa said will remain indelible in the minds of the orphans.

“It is an important gesture to share the little that we have with the under privileged members of the society such as orphans during festive season,” she said.

Chirwa said Chitipa District is also striving to promote the welfare of orphans with meager resources available so that they do not feel the pinch of living life parentless.

Ileje District Commissioner, Rosemary Staki Senyamule said she was humbled by the donation which she said just came at the nick of time.

enyamule said the donation will go a long way to alleviate food shortage faced by the orphans at their respective caretaker’s homes.

“It is difficult to look for proper words to express our gratitude for the timely donation,” she said.

On December 31, 2015, Chirwa, led a delegation from Chitipa District Council to participate in year-end celebrations in Ileje District, upon invitation from DC Senyamula, as one way of further cementing ties between Chitipa and Ileje Districts whose people share several things in common and depend on each other for socioeconomic activities.
