The South Africa-Malawian based Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church has rescued over 3,000 households with maize and cash from acute shortage of food which has hit Malawi very hard.
Prophet Bushiri response to food distribution comes amid accusations of government failure to supply enough maize to Admarc deports across the nation as most people are spending sleepless nights without food the situation which vendors have taken advantage of by selling the staple food at an exorbitant prices ranging from MK12, 000 to MK18, 000 per 50 kilogram beating the recommended price of MK5, 100 per 50kg.
This is the second time Bushiri is in the country as last month did the same exercise distributing relief items to those affected with floods and famine in selected districts including Ntcheu, Rumphi and Dowa of worthy MK35 million. He refused then that he would not invest in Malawi because of conditions on the ground. This brought controversy as many accused him of abandoning his countrymen.
In an interview with the Maravi Post’s Lloyd M’bwana the prophet addressed this head on.
The Malawian Prophet this time around started the initiative of donating maize in Zomba then later on Friday, February 12, took his charity work under “Prophetic Channel Aid” to Nathenje in the capital Lilongwe where 3,000 households were given bags of maize while those did not get the maize went home with cash.
Bushiri assured the general public that will continue to help Malawians through his global humanitarian work in rescuing God’s children from suffering and that about MK85 million has been spent for the exercise.
“I had come in Malawi once again to distribute maize to about 3,000 households though the need it’s more than that. However, those who have failed to get a bag of maize gotten home some cash for them to be able to buy rice.
“It’s a responsibility for every Malawian to help the affected people facing hunger in the country as government can’t do it alone but all of us. This is the reason as a citizen of this nation I have a responsibility to help the needy. I am also appealing to other religious leaders to do the same towards those suffering. It’s time to stand together on this crisis”, urges Bushiri after donating maize to the multitude of people.
Over 2.8 million Malawians are dire need of food due to poor harvest the country experienced last growing season-2014/2016 caused by unfavorable weather pattern which saw some parts hit hard with floods, dry spells and torrential rains.
Malawian Prophet Shepard Bushiri currently resides in South Africa whose home town is the central district of Ntcheu but his father married in the northern district of Rumphi where he was born and the other home is Chiphore in Salima, the original district of his grandfather who happened be from a Yao tribe and married in Ntcheu where his father was born.
