Residents of Karonga have on Thursday petitioned the District Commissioner Rosemary Moyo for being ruthless to the journalist as well as politicizing her office.
The petitioned was signed and presented by Karonga Youths for Justice Executive Director Steven Simsokwe.
In the petition, the community worried that the development is painting a bad picture of the DCs office and affects a lot of developmental projects of the district.
“We know that your office has been silent in issues of cleaning the town despite being affected by the cholera disease as well as the outcry from the community, however after hearing that the President is coming here we have seen your office is busy cleaning the town premises,” said the letter.
“Apart from this they are a lot of things that have been changed with the coming of the President and we know that after this all will be back to normal a development we believe to be political,” added the letter.
It further said “we have been also hearing that your office is fond of chasing reporters when coming to verify pertinent issues affecting us.”
“As the community we regard reporters as the mouth piece to our problems and therefore mistreating them is also affecting us strongly,” said the letter.
Adding that “we wonder why your office which is the highest in the district fails to grant interviews to the media, that is why we suspect that there’s something fishy you are trying to hide.”
The community therefore asked the DC to change the behavior immediately while threatening to the conduct a strong demonstration if it continues.
However, efforts to talk to Moyo proved futile as she was out of the district. However, the officer receiving the letter assured the community that he will present it to the DC and asked them to be calm.
Recently, traditional leaders and councilors petitioned the Principal Secretary of the ministry of local government to immediately transfer Moyo for being rude and negligence in her work.
