BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-In a continuing cleanup campaign, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has uncovered fraudulent activities at Mwanza district council.
The misappropriation of funds which has stayed without trace for the last three years has recently being brought to light and two officers involved has been arrested.
The recent revelation has led to uncovering of suspicious loss of funds amounting to MK5 million and the two culprits involved in the matter.
The accounts assurant, Hanna Gonani together with the hospital administrator, John Jere have been identified as two main players in the fraudulent activities.
The two who have been stealing leaf of cheques and forging signatures to withdraw the money from the offices have been arrested on case of “theft and forgery”.
The ministry has therefore warned officers working in councils to resist corruption as it will continue working towards uncovering any fraudulent activities in government offices.
