
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The chairperson for (Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC), Timothy Mtambo has encouraged all Malawians to come together and take part in the freedom march that the board has organized on December 10, (today) in commemorating International Human Rights day in Lilongwe city.
In a press briefing on Monday afternoon in the capital Lilongwe, the chairperson said the march has been organized to ensure that all malawians have their voices heard in hope for a change.
“We will go out there not to cause some fracas but rather remind each other of our journey. We’re mindful of our struggles and we need to plan for the future hence then need for us to be heard and government to act of our grievances, ” he said
He continued to say that anyone who is willing to take part during this march is welcome as long as they observe the peaceful nature of the march.
The march that will start from Lilongwe community ground on Tuesday will attract Malawians from all parts of the country.
The board has also invited police to intensify security throughout this process.
Among various issues; corruption, nepotism, illegal mining and injustice are some of the issues that the march will try attempt address.
In an interview with the Vice chairperson of HRDC, Gift Trapence, he said malawi is doing very good in terms of paper work but not on the ground.
“Our system is only benefiting those with money. Leadership at all levels is lacking and hence the need to strengthen this to recognize human rights otherwise Malawi might remain poor forever,” he said.
He continued to say that there is some observable progress in terms of protection of human rights but there is still a need for Malawians to continue coming out with their various concerns.
The vice chairperson added that the police have been informed about the march and they expect them to show up tomorrow during the march to intensify security throughout the march.
