LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi President Chakwera must listen and act upon calls against his nepotistic type of leadership coupled with passive approach to nation concerns.

This is the reason the catholic church leadership in Malawi on Saturday, December 19, 2020 had to tell Chakwera on the face to do better.

In homily at the funeral of late Archbishop Tarsizius Ziyaye, Karonga Diocese Catholic Bishop Martin Mtumbuka addressed President Chakwera directly urging him not to lead by appeasement but being steadfast on competence, justice, peace, love and zeal.

Bishop Mtumbuka, a no nonsense Catholic church leader had to tell Chakwera to listen to cries of the nation on how Tonse government is running affairs of the state since June 23, 2020’s presidential election victory.

Chakwera along his Vice Saulos Chilima attended the last funeral service for late Archbishop Ziyaye who died of cancer in Namibia.

The funeral service took place at Civil Stadium in the capital Lilongwe.

The body of the archbishop was laid to rest in a crypt inside Maula Catholic Cathedral.

On Friday, December 18, 2020 President Chakwera’s Tonse administration was given a week to address citizens concerns or face national wide demonstration and vigils.

The ultimatum came after frustrated citizens under the banner Centre for Democracy and Economic Initiatives (CDEDI) demonstrated against President Chakwera’s impunity and arrogance.

Among key issues Chakwera has failed to address including foreign nationals who are alleged of conducting small businesses instead of leaving them to locals, increase of fuel price, hotel gate scandal, and salary increment for Members of Parliament (MPs).
