Old Mutual’s Mthunzi funeral services launches tree nursery program

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Mthunzi funeral services a subsidiary of Old mutual Malawi have launched Mthunzi tree nursery Whereby seed trees will be nurtured and distributed to communities surrounding Blantyre city for free.

The event took place in Blantyre on Tuesday, 2nd March.

Speaking at the event Chief operating officer for Old mutual Malawi Khumbo Phiri said that as a cooperate citizen they do realize the effects of climate change globally and the high level of deforestation in the country hence the coming up with the initiative, at the event Old mutual Malawi also launched their 2021 tree planting season.

Phiri further said that this year alone Old mutual Malawi will distribute 12 thousand seed plants for free to communities surrounding Blantyre city.

In her remarks Wildlife and environmental society of Malawi (WESN) board chairperson Dr Tiwonge Gawa urged various stakeholders who are engaging in tree planting activities to make a proper follow up of the trees planted to insure that trees are surviving.

Gawa highlighted that trees that are planted differs with tree which they grow on their own hence the need for proper monitoring for the trees to survive.
