ACB launches Mobile App to combat corruption, fraud

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has introduced a mobile application aimed at enhancing efficiency in reporting corruption cases in Malawi.

The app allows individuals to report corruption incidents from the comfort of their homes, reducing the need to physically visit ACB offices.

According to Egrita Ndala, ACB’s Chief Public Education Officer, the digital platform is designed to complement existing reporting modalities.

“The digital platform is there to complement other modalities of reporting cases where people will be reporting from the comfort of their homes without the hustle of physically visiting ACB offices,” Ndala said during a Civil Society Organization (CSO) member training in Mchinji.

The training’s objective was to orient pilot users on how to utilize the app effectively in reporting corruption cases.

However, Davis Damison, Mchinji CSO Vice Chairperson, expressed concerns that the ACB should prioritize expediting the prosecution of corrupt cases rather than just focusing on increasing documentation of suspected cases.

This development comes as corruption remains a significant challenge in Malawi.

According to the ACB’s 2020/21 annual report, corruption cases increased by 90% from the previous year, with 1,217 complaints recorded.

The ACB has been working to combat corruption through investigations, arrests, and awareness programs.
