ADMARC Official arrested for selling maize to vendors

Machinga, March 25, 2016: Police at Ntaja in Machinga have arrested an ADMARC official, Felix Mponda, 34, for selling maize to vendors who were found with 65 bags of maize.

Police in Machinga confirmed the arrest of the ADMARC official and five people for being found with more bags of maize.

Police Public Relations Officer, Constable Davie Sulumba said investigations have revealed that Mponda sold the bags to vendors at K7, 000.00 each.

 

Police have since arrested Fredson Msume for buying 6 bags, Umali Magetsi for buying 3 bags, Dyton Kona for buying 18 bags, Mussa Mbawala for buying 21 bags and another man only known as Bwidi for buying 3 bags.

By Thursday afternoon Police recovered a total of 65 bags of maize, according to Sulumba who added that other vendors are at large as police are looking for them.

Mponda who comes from Ng’andu village, Traditional Authority Ngokwe in Machinga will answer charges of abuse of office and corruption.

In the meantime Police in Machinga are warning vendors against conniving with ADMARC officials in buying maize at the expense of households in the district who buy the maize solely for consumption.

All arrested vendors are from Kawinga area.

Nanyumbu Admarc is at Ngalawesa Village about 2 kilometers from Nanyumbu Headquarters of Senior Chief Kawinga in Machinga
