PRETORIA-(MaraviPost)-The home of Ngizwe Mchunu, a prominent figure in South Africa’s anti-immigrant movement, was reduced to ashes in an arson attack in Mbumbulu, KwaZulu-Natal.
Mchunu, who leads the group Amabhinca, was not at home during the incident, but his children were present.
Three unidentified men arrived at the house, asking for Mchunu, and set it ablaze when told he was not there.
Mchunu is currently in Johannesburg, while his wife is in Cape Town.
The attack has sparked concerns about retaliation against Mchunu’s activism, particularly following recent protests against immigration in Durban and Johannesburg.
Mchunu’s associate, Nkosi Phakel’umthakathi Ndabandaba, believes the attack was premeditated and linked to Mchunu’s anti-immigrant stance.
No one was injured in the fire, but the house and its contents were destroyed. Mchunu’s activism has been criticized by human rights groups, who accuse him of promoting xenophobia and violence.
The South African government has urged caution, stating that the matter is under investigation.
The incident has drawn international attention, with some African countries expressing concern over the rise of xenophobic sentiment in South Africa.
