AU’s Dr Dlamini Zuma promises aid for Malawi Flood Victims

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 16 January 2015: The African Union Commission Chairperson H.E Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma says she has received with shock, the tragic news of devastating floods which have struck Malawi with serious adverse effects on the country’s population.

 

The Chairperson commiserates with the President of the Republic of Malawi H.E. Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika and the people of Malawi. This unfortunate calamity has killed over 100 people, destroyed thousands of houses destroyed across many districts and leaving thousands of people internally displaced.

Dr Dlamini Zuma assures the government and people of Malawi that the AU will give the highest priority to providing modest humanitarian assistance to the government as part of efforts to alleviate the suffering of the affected population. This assistance will be availed to the government as soon as possible.
