Big Bullets players shine at TNM Super League Awards, Vincent Gona best Goalie

End of season TNM Super League awards were presented last evening by TNM and the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) at the College of Medicine Sports Complex.

Big Bullets were crowned the 2014 TNM Super League champions with 62 points from 28 games. Big Bullets dominated the season’s awards as well. These year’s awards were decided by the football fans who were given a chance by the sponsors TNM in conjunction with SULOM to vote for the player of their choice in each category through a message written “SULOM” and texted to local Malawi number 0881428222.

Best Goalie:
The best goalkeeper award went to Bullets’s Vincent Gona, who was dominating by only conceded 14 goals this season. He went away with a cheque worthy K80 000. Gona managed to beat Richard Chipuwa of BE Forward Mighty Wanderers, Blessing Kameza of Silver Strikers and Moyale Barracks’ Mcdonald Harawa.

Best Defender:
Best Defender award went to Francis Mulimbika who plays for Bullet’s arch rivals, Mighty Wanderers. He beat Bullets’s duo of Sankhani Mkandawire and Yamikani Fodya and Civo Service United captain Emmanuel Zoya. Mulimbika also received K80 000.

Best Midfielder:
The midfied battle saw Bullets’s Dalitso Sailesi being named as the Best Midfielder of the Season by beating his team mates in the name of Fischer Kondowe and Henry Kabichi, Wanderers’s Mike Kaziputa and Blue Eagles’s Phillip Masiye.

Sailesi walked away with K80 000. The most improved player award went to former Blantyre UTD captain, now with Big Bullets, Victor Limbani. Limbani received K80 000. Fischer Kondowe won the most prestigious award of the night as he was named Player of the Season. He beat the Moyale Barracks’s duo, Gastin Simkonda and Harawa. The controversial dread-locked player who has defied his old age at 40 years, created more assists this season than any other, hit the K120 000 jackpot winning the award. Despite finishing the season with the same number of goals (16) as Deus Mkutu, Simkonda won this year’s golden boot and was given a cheque worthy K100 000.

In total, Bullets players collected a maximum of K360 000 from the total K620 000 prize money.
