DEDZA-(MaraviPost)-Traditional Authority (T.A) Kamenyagwaza of Dedza district has asked government and relevant stakeholders to bring closer issues of technology to women as one way of addressing different forms of violence that women face.
He made the plea on Wednesday when Dedza district joined the world in commemorating this year’s International Women’s Day.
Kamenyagwaza said lack of technical know how on technological advancement among women and girls mostly those living in rural areas is fueling different forms of violence.
Most women, especially those living in rural areas are very far from technology. As such they face a number of assaults be on Facebook and other social media platforms,” said Kamenyagwaza.

In her remarks, World Vision Risk and Compliance Manager Scader Louis expressed the need for the citizenry to be responsible in the way they use the technology in a bid to avoid hurting women, whom she noted are victims of different forms of abuses that are common on the social media.
Scader who was the guest of honour during the event emphasized on the need to make technology accessible to people with disabilities as a way of empowering them.
She however challenged women in the country to be vigilant in reporting different forms of violence that they face in their livelihoods.
“Reporting any type of violence that women face is very important, so we are encouraging women and the youth to use technology to report their concerns to relevant stakeholders. The laws are there to protect them,” said Scader.
Meanwhile, Dedza District Gender Officer Lisnet Kathyole has described the day as crucial describing it as catalyst to advance the economic status of the district.
Kathyole added that the council is utilizing community structures to intensify awareness on the need to use technology in a proper manner.
The day was commemorated under the theme Digital Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.
