NKHATABAY-(MANA)-Traditional leaders in Nkhata Bay have described President Lazarus Chakwera as the only hope for the people of Malawi, citing numerous development projects being implemented in the district under his administration.

Speaking at Kavuzi Trading Centre, which was also the final stop for Chakwera’s whistle-stop tour in the district,  Traditional Authority (TA) Kabunduli praised Chakwera for his unwavering commitment to transforming the lives of Malawians, particularly in rural areas.

He highlighted the president’s efforts in resolving long-standing chieftaincy disputes in the district, many of which had been neglected for years.

“President Chakwera has not only elevated several traditional leaders in Nkhata Bay but also successfully resolved many chieftaincy wrangles, including mine, that were left unresolved by previous administrations,” he said.

He commended government for completing the construction of  900 hectare Mzenga Irrigation Scheme in the area, which has already begun benefiting local farmers.

“People have already started irrigating their crops at this scheme. This gives us hope that hunger will soon be a thing of the past and we will be feeding our neighbouring districts.

“Let me assure you that on September 16 the people of Kabunduli, and the entire Nkhata Bay, will not think twice but  vote for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) because they have seen and are enjoying the fruits of development,” he declared.

Speaking earlier at Chintheche  Trading Centre, Senior Chief Malanda, applauded President Chakwera for prioritizing the welfare of traditional leaders.

He pointed the construction of decent housing for chiefs, which is underway, as a strong motivation for local leadership to work diligently in supporting government’s efforts.

He, therefore, urged the community to back  MCP shadow Members of Parliament and councillors to ensure continuity of ongoing development initiatives citing construction of modern police houses and operating theatre at Chintheche Rural Hospital in his area which nears completion.

In his remarks, President Chakwera reaffirmed his government’s commitment to revitalizing all irrigation schemes across the district to combat food insecurity.

“We are determined to ensure that no one in this district, or anywhere in Malawi, should worry about hunger again.

“Let us commercialize agriculture and fully utilize irrigation infrastructure we are providing,” Chakwera said.

He emphasized his administration’s dedication to resolving chieftaincy wrangles and fostering peaceful coexistence between local communities and corporate investors operating in the area.

Minister of Trade, Vitumbiko Mumba, who is also President Chakwera’s running mate in the upcoming election, reiterated MCP’s vision for inclusive economic growth.

He highlighted government’s efforts in empowering local businesses, boosting trade and supporting community development projects as key drivers of sustainable progress.
