BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The recent familirisation tour by Lands Ministers Kezzie Msukwa and his deputy Abida Mia to housing projects in Blantyre under Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) have vindicated one of Malawi’s top construction companies, DEC Construction on recent social media rumours that the company was paid a whooping MK3 billion on housing project without fulfilling the contract obligation.

The truth on matter that both MHC and DEC officials have uniformly established, indicates that in the 8-houses construction contract DEC was paid MK247 Million as per agreed.

According to DEC Managing Director, Dan Chale, the company did not want to refute the allegations through the social media but found it appropriate to brief members of the media during the ministerial tour as reporters would get the first hand information right from the horses mouths.

The social media rumours, which Chale described as ‘mere hearsies’ also alleged that ACB was investigating DEC on the matter, which this publication has verified to be false.

The social media allegations went a mile to suggest that former Cabinet Minister in the past Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration, Kondwani Nankhumwa co-runs the company.

On this partucular, Chale explained that the name of the former cabinet minister was probably mentioned because the company had won some construction projects from the Ministry of Local Government during the time Nankhumwa was its minister.

Said Chale: “We won several contracts under the Ministry of Local Government but that does not stretch to the particular politician getting involved in the running of the company.”

The DEC boss quirries: “Does it mean that when a private owned company gets a contract from a government ministry then it means that the minister in the particular ministry becomes a business partiner?”

Through an interview with MHC Public Relations Officer, Ernestina Lunguzi during the ministerial tour to the completed houses at Ngumbe project site, this publication finds MHC as the client satisfied with quality work by experienced professionals, DEC Construction.

Traced from humble beginnings in the year 2008, DEC has over the years risen the ladders in the highly competitive environment of the construction industry and has therefore won trust and confidence of government and the private sector to manage huge projects as quality and excellence became the core essence of client attraction.
