LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-As political tension continues to mount in Malawi, UTM Publicity Secretary Felix Njawala has dismissed social media reports of returning to Tonse Alliance governing following the party’s exist
Njawala has also dismissed reports that the party’s exit from the Tonse Alliance is on the agenda’s committee meeting currently underway in the capital Lilongwe.
“Sindinaone kuti nkhani imeneyo pa agenda ilipo mwina chifukwa choti chipani tinapanga kale decision mchifukwa chake palibe. Sindikukhulupilira kuti tingalambirane imeneyo, sindinayione,” literally means “I haven’t seen that issue on the agenda, possibly because the party has already made a decision on it, so there is nothing to discuss. I don’t believe we will agree, as I haven’t seen it,” Njawala stated.
His comments were made in response to rumors suggesting that discussions about leaving the Tonse Alliance were on the agenda.
The meeting in Lilongwe is the first high-level gathering of UTM officials since the party publicly announced its intention to review its position within the Tonse Alliance.
Despite speculation, Njawala emphasized that the discussions are led by UTM leader Michael Usi and are focused on evaluating the party’s upcoming convention, rather than finalizing any departure from the alliance.
Njawala’s recent remarks clarify that the UTM is not currently deliberating a formal exit from the Tonse Alliance, contrary to some reports.
The Lilongwe meeting, which marks the party’s initial high-level consultation since announcing a review of its alliance status, is primarily aimed at assessing internal matters and preparing for the upcoming convention.
